358.0. "SCCA Formula 440 class" by VMSNET::M_MACIOLEK (Four54 Camaro/Only way to fly) Tue Feb 21 1995 15:23

    Anyone out there know anything about the SCCA's Formula 440 class.
    I believe that's that I'm interested in. That's the adult sized
    go-carts like at Malibu Grand Prix with the souped up snowmobile
    engines on them. That looks like a fun time.

    Let's use this topic for discussing this class of car. I may be
    interested in buying one of these heaps to go driving through the
    woods at Road Atlanta.

    I know that some have Kawasaki snowmobile engines, which means you have
    to start them with a pull cord (we use a different term at the
    track...). I've alwo heard that some regional drivers buy 1 set of
    slicks and 1 set of rains, and run an entire season that way. It
    doesn't get much cheaper to start than that. Formula Vee's at least
    have a battery.

    Since your down in Atlanta, see if you can get a local SCCA tech person
    to talk to, or get a name of a 440 driver to talk to. Drivers love to
    talk about their cars.....

    Geez, Mike, don't let the boys in the NASCAR conference hear about
    this. I mean, ROAD racing, fer crying out loud. (many :-) )

358.3Ah yes: Saturday = Pretzels ,Sunday = Caviar. NOT!!!VMSNET::M_MACIOLEKFour54 Camaro/Only way to flyTue Feb 21 1995 18:218
    Hey, remember, I'm a drag racer 1st. I don't mind helping folks who
    spend a fortune to go squish sheetmetal every saturday night. But for
    sundays I am getting visions of me buzzing through the woods while
    my wife is eating cheese and whine, er wine. On Saturdays I can still
    have my Beer and potato chips at Lanier. It's simple economics. But
    don't tell anyone about this. ;^)

    A friend of mine just started road racing in a 440 last year, having spent most of his
    racing career up until now in motorcycles. He loved it and did rather
    well. He's planning on doing just this season, with an eye towards
    selling what he's currently got and going (perhaps) formula ford
    racing. Anyway, if you'd like to some backgrounder info (pricing,
    specs, etc.) feel free to call him -- Tom Fatur (603) 437 7629.
    Unfortnately, he's not a DECCie, so you'll have to give him a holler
    after hours.

    Good luck,

358.5I'll stick with V8's and CamarosVMSNET::M_MACIOLEKFour54 Camaro/Only way to flyTue May 27 1997 20:327
    Forget about the open wheels and snowmobile engines... since i'm
    a camaro kinda guy, I figured out I'm going American Sedan racing.

    I need to score a couple more camaros and then I'll start building
    my AS car during the fall.

    Yup, I pushed a bunch of them over the weekend. Back when I was
    contemplating something... it was 440, or 300 or 250 or something.
    :^)
