6.3 | Internet "wheeltowheel" mailing list | ALIEN::MCCULLEY | RSX Pro | Thu Oct 31 1991 19:09 | 93 |
| I thought this worthy of posting in case anyone else here is
interested. I've been a subscriber to "wheeltowheel" for quite awhile
now, and recommend it wholeheartedly.
To send mail from the Easynet to Andy or the aliases he mentions:
nm%DECWRL::"Andy.Banta@Eng.Sun.COM"
nm%DECWRL::"wheeltowheel-request@abingdon.Eng.Sun.COM"
nm%DECWRL::"wheeltowheel@abingdon.Eng.Sun.COM"
Enjoy!

Subj: Welcome
The discussion/controversy in rec.autos.spurt has made quite a few
people aware of this list, and consequently, I've added quite a
few new people to this list over the past couple weeks. To all that
I've added, Welcome.
As I've done since the start, when requests come in, I've silently
added your address to the alias.
I'll briefly describe how to get to the list and what it is:
To send a message to the list, the address is
wheeltowheel@abingdon.sun.com. This address is simply a mail
exploder; your message doesn't get queued up and I don't edit
or stop anything directed at the list.
For administrative requests, the address is
wheeltowheel-request@abingdon.sun.com. Add and delete requests, and
changes of address are encompassed by administrative requests.
Others on the list probably aren't real interested that your address
changed, so please don't send such requests to the list, at large.
This list is recreation for me, as well as the readers. As such, I
make changes to the alias at my convenience, but try to make sure my
convenience is within about a day of the request.
Realizing that the internet and uucp connections aren't a model of
stability, I generally ignore bounce messages until a particular
address or site chronicly bounces mail. My metric is no less than
three bounces, spanning at least a five day period. My apologies
for returned mail messages you may receive, but I'd rather see them
than drop a reader because his machine was down for a day.
The list is intended for the discussion of wheel to wheel racing of
any form. Solo racing, or autocrossing, has its own mailing list.
I'll go out on a limb, and say the address for joining that list is
autox-request@hoosier.utah.edu. If I'm wrong, I know I'll be
corrected.
The difference between this and the newsgroup is perspective. This
list was originated as a forum for motorsports participants. This
includes drivers, workers, crew, someone who "wrenched on a friend's
car", and basically anyone who is more involved than being able
recognize David Hobbs' voice immediately. Let's try to keep Pick
Sixes, Earnhardt vs. Senna wars, and essentially anything which
could include the phrase "I reviewed the videotape" out of this list.
Welcomed subjects include, but certainly aren't limited to car
setup, driving technique, discussions about various sanctioning
bodies and, always, stories of your racing adventures.
I will not limit, nor object to anything anyone says. Racing is
generally an adult sport, and I will assume the readership can
handle adult language and situations. If something on the list
offends you, take it up with the writer of the letter, not me.
And I wouldn't bring up this point if hadn't been an issue in the
past: This list is basically a private forum. The only thing I
mean by that is I control the readership, and people can't "tap in"
to the list without requesting access from me.
If you are interested in forwarding a message to a different list, a
newsgroup, or anyone the author *may* not have intended to read the
message, please get permission from the author before doing so.
An example of bad etiquette is forwarding or discussing someone's
gripe with a sanctioning body to the higher echelon of that
sanctioning body. Make sure you get the author's permission before
trying this at home.
Thanks. Enjoy.

6.2 | Internet race workers mailing list starting | ALIEN::MCCULLEY | RSX Pro | Fri May 01 1992 17:33 | 53 |
| The following two postings appeared in the USEnet newsgroup rec.autos.sport,
and seemed of potential interest to this forum. There seems a good chance
that the race-workers mailing list will get started...
>>{...about the idea of an f-and-c mailing list...}
>
>if i _do_ start the list (this is not yet certain; send email
>to help me make the decision), then it will be:
>
> race-workers@ ...
>
>and scrutineering, grid, and timing/scoring discussions will
>be welcome as well.
>
>cheers,
>richard welty 518-393-7228
>welty@cabot.balltown.cma.com
~Such discussions are of course welcome on wheeltowheel. I think if
~such a list is created, the overlap between wheeltowheel will be quite
~high.
~
~I apologize for the the SFR-centeredness of wheeltowheel, but that
~seems to be where most of the people on the list work and race. To
~change that, we'll need to hear from more non-SFR workers.
~If you're interested in joining the wheeltowheel mailing list, whose
~focus is the discussion of racing from the participants perspective
~(ie No F1, Indy or Nascar discussions; mostly SCCA club racing,
~karting, and semi-pro oval racing), mail me or send to
~ wheeltowheel-request@abingdon.sun.com (which I get anyway).
~"Participants" include workers, crew, drivers, and anyone else with
~more interest than engaging in Earnhardt vs. Senna wars.

To send to internet addresses from VAXmail, use the internet
address as a quoted string for the username field at node DECWRL.
Thus:
nm%DECWRL::"wheeltowheel-request@abingdon.Eng.Sun.COM"
or:
NM%DECWRL::"welty@cabot.balltown.cma.com"
To send from a node within one of Digital's IP domains, convert the
address format by replacing the "@" with a "%" and appending
"@decwrl.dec.com".
Thus:
wheeltowheel-request%abingdon.Eng.Sun.COM@decwrl.dec.com
or:
welty%cabot.balltown.cma.com@decwrl.dec.com

| Just in case any of you are "double dippers" like I am, wanted to let
you folks know that effective March 5, the CARS_UK notesfile will be
moving to a new node - TIMMII::CARS_UK. Should be up and running in
good order by 3/6 morning.
Apparently all you have to do is type:
mod entry cars_uk/file=timmii::cars_uk

6.8 | New F1 conference | AIMTEC::BURDEN_D | A bear in his natural habitat | Wed Dec 14 1994 17:25 | 9 |
| A new F1 only conference has been created - VANGA::F1
Hopefully it will fly and keep all the F1 discussions in one place, without
having to wade through non-race related topics.
I plan to move the F1 related topics over, but will keep them here as well and
probably write lock those topics.

SlotSide - The Internet Home of Slot Car Racing presents a Special
Feature:
The 1995 USRA Nationals from LUG NUT Raceway in Montgomeryville, PA.
Check it out!
The URL Address for SlotSide on the WWW is:
http://www.netside.com/~yara66a/slotside.html
By the way. Yes, it's the same slot car racing from the sixties,
still alive and being enjoyed by enthusiasts around the world. If
there is a raceway near you (look at SlotSide's Directory of
Commercial Tracks) give it a try. BIG FUN!
