Pittsburgh (sp?) Paint

Not sure what the G is (group?). It's probably in my garage, on a can
of the stuff I use on my race car.

Pittsburg Plated Glass or Pittsburg Paint and Glass, major big company.

PPG = Pittsburgh Plate Glass, not to be confused with Pittsbugh Paint,
another big company.

Are you sure? I seem to remember the PPG logo on the almost-empty
5-gallon pail of Pittsburg Paint in my basement -- I'll check tonight.

Well, I looked on the cans of PPG paint in my garage and there is no
mention of what it stands for. I used to have some literature from them.
If I get really ambitious, I'll see if it's still around.

PPG == Pittsburgh Paint and Glass. I asked someone at the race yesterday who
had it written on their shirt.

Boy, you folks sure are argumentative! Seeking enlightenment on this
crucial issue, I called up PPG headquarters in Pittsbugh and asked the
nice lady what PPG stands for. She said, "Nothing."

According to her, PPG once stood for Pittsbugh Plate Glass, but they've
been branching out. They bought Pittsbugh Paint, and have also gotten
into aerospace, biomedical, etc, so now it's just PPG Industries.

I guess having it on a shirt doesn't mean you know what it means.

Thank you for the info.... I asked about twenty people around NHIS
when the IndyCars ran here acouple weeks ago and only one guy knew
but he was not 100% sure.

Until the crackdown on smoking causes the series name to change,
sometime in the future. Look what's happening in F1 racing - ie. Camel
and Marlboro ads not allowed when the series goes to certain countries
    in Europe.

	Two questions about Indycar racing:

How long is the longest oval racing circuit that is used for I.R.?

What top speed has been done in I.R. and on which circuit?

	Thanks,

	Poul

    Re: last

The longest oval used by IndyCar (aka CART) is Michigan International
    Speedway at 2 miles.

The longest oval used by the IRL is Indianapolis at 2.5 miles.

The highest top speed (with any sort of documentation) that I know of
was clocked by Paul Tracy in practice for the 1994 Indy 500, when he
hit 247 mph at the entrance to Turn Three. This may have in fact been
exceeded by either Arie Luyendyk or Scott Brayton at Indianapolis this
year, but I can't confirm that.

The highest top speed claimed was by Andre Ribero in practice for the
year's Marlboro 500, when he hit a supposed 251 mph entering Turn Three
at Michigan on his 238 mph practice lap.

Again in the realm of rumor, Paul Tracy supposedly did a 243 mph lap at
Michigan during tests of the Mercedes/Ilmor 500I pushrod engine.
There's probably no way for anyone outside the Penske organization to
confirm or deny this, and the car may not have been legal when the
    testing was run.
