237.0. "Mini-sprints" by MENSCH::MOOTREY () Tue Jan 08 1991 14:12

Anyone have any information on Mini-sprints?
I was talking to a few people at the world of wheels and these
caught my eye. It looks like a cheap (?) way of getting into
racing. I have sent off for their news letter, ect. But I
was hoping to learn more in here.

FYI: A mini-sprint as a midget dirt track racer with a single
    cylinder 500cc motor.

237.1Maybe I can get you some infoAUNTB::FULTONMaking little pieces from big piecesTue Jan 08 1991 16:1212
Here in the southeast (Charlotte, NC), the mini-sprints I have seen
use 1100cc 4 cyl motorcycle engines. I have been to a shop that races
two of them; one Yamaha powered and the other Suzuki powered. They cost
about $10,000 to $16,000 to build and tune (each). These would appear to
be a different class of cars than those you mention, but if you want, I
will try to get you some information.

Sent mail to FULTON::AUNTB, call me at DTN 367-5528, or reply to this
    note.

     MINI-SPRINTS ?
I have been racing Mini-Sprints for 4 years (1991 will be 5). If you
would like to talk more about them call me at dtn 522-2575. Oh yes
I am in colorado. I wont talk too much about them on here because
we have some deces around here that are only garage mini-sprint
racers, and I probably thats all they will be. I dont need any of
    their war stories.....

Personally, I prefer "digits" as the collective noun to denote
    employees.

Or maybe DECcies. When looking at "deces", I read the plural of
something pronounced like "meese", hence the question.

    re:1

The mini_sprints that you saw at the World of Wheels are known as
modified midgets in some parts of the country. Also those same ones
run at Sugar Hill Speedway in Weare N.H., there is also a track
in Winchester N.H., High Groove Speedway, that runs mini-sprints/
modified midgets. The difference between the two tracks is that
Sugar Hill only runs the 500cc class, where High Groove runs a 250cc,
500cc and 650cc class of modified midgets, and a 1200cc class of
mini-sprints(as the larger one are more commonly known as).

The modified midget are a fairly inexpensive way to race. I started
last year with a brand new car, running a 250cc Susuki motor, doing
most of the work myself and it cost me under $4000. If I can you
with more information, contact me by mail.

Thanks for all the info. Both in here and through the mail. It
looks like I may have found an affordable way to race!!!!

I have a catalog coming from Stallard Chassis in Delaware (302)
292-1800 And I am ordering a book titled Mini Sprint/Micro Sprint
    Racing Technology.

Keep the info coming. I am sure I have a long was to go. If there
seems to be any interest, I will keep you informed on what I do.
