909.0. "Baby Herrera...HELP!" by SWAM1::HERRERA_LI () Tue Sep 28 1993 17:52

We need help!!! We are expecting our second child in February, and we
cannot agree on names. Our list of "names NOT to use" is long....very
long. Our list of possibilities is practically non-existent!!

Here are the facts: Our last name is Herrera. My husband is from
Central America and our son, Alexander Sebastian Herrera, is the
first generation Herrera to be born in the U.S. We chose Alexander
because we both loved it and it felt right; Sebastian is my husband's
grandfather's name, so it has lots of special meaning to us. We never
did agree on a girl's name--luckily, Alex was Alex!

So, here we are waiting for #2. We don't know if it's a boy or a girl,
although I wish we did!! My husband LOVES the name "Michelle", and
would also use "Rachel". I always wanted a girl's name that was a bit
more uncommon, exotic, unusual, but I keep getting vetoed. The only
boy's name he likes is Derek, but I think it sounds TERRIBLE with
    Herrera.

I have four baby name books and we still can't agree! We would like
to use my husband's grandmother's name, Trinidad, as a middle name
for a girl. If we could come up with a slight variation, I'd consider
it for a first name (since I like the unusual). Trinity is a direct
translation, but I think it's _too_ frilly for me. (I don't like the
    "E" names...Tiffany, Tammy, Cindy, etc.)

Any suggestions for baby boy or girl Herrera?? We both agree NOT to
name the baby after ourselves, so our names are out, too. (Linette
Marie and Cesar Romeo). My husband doesn't want a Latin first name,
but he is really partial to French names. Me? Well, I want us both
to be happy with the name!!! Am I asking too much???

    Thanks,

    Linette ;)

    Hi,

I love the name Alexander Sebastian. For a complimenting boy's name:

    Stephen Derek Herrera
    Benjamin Derek Herrera

For a girl's name, I love Trinidad. If names with an "E" sound are
not what you like, what about an "A" sound. The first one that came
to my mind was Trina, but Trinidad in full would make a great middle
    name:

    Jolene Trinidad
    Marcelle Trinidad
    Paige Trinidad
    Rene Trinidad
    Trina Michelle
    Trina Rachel

    Good luck.

    Chris

Whatever you do, if the baby is a girl, don't name her Carolina!
Carolina Herrera is the name of a brand of perfume. Have you heard of
it? Actually, I love the scent - very sweet, but different. :-)

I think Michelle Herrera sounds better than Rachel Herrera (that
sounds a bit harsh to me).

I think maybe a one short - one syllable name - would sound good with
your last name. I sort've like: Faith Herrera

Although I think Amy would be cute, too. Amy Herrera

    Lorna

Linette,

I also like Michelle Trinidad Herrera (Rachel is ok) and don't really
like the sound of Derek Herrera, but do like the name Derek, so....

How about Rachelle for a compromise? If your husband likes french
sounding names, how about any of the following (these boys' names
might be good middle name options too):

	Joelle Bradley
	Nicole Nicholas
	Adrienne Martin
	Robin Christian/Christopher
	Aimee Gabriel
	Angeline Justin
	Liana Jonathan
	Marlene Max
	Celena Timothy
	Jacqueline Wayne
	Roxanne
	Justine
	Noelle
	Bianca
	Celena
	Natalie
	Sylvia
	Crystal
	Jocelyn

I think my favorites with Alexander are Roxanne, Jocelyn, or Jacqueline
and Nicholas Bradley or Gabriel Christopher (boy that's a lot of
syllables, though!) ;-)

Good luck finding that right match,
-Cori

    re: .2

Yes, I love Carolina Herrera.....had to buy it the first time I saw it
several years ago!! It's still one of my favorites.

    re: everyone

Thanks for the suggestions. My favorite so far is Celena... FYI,
some of my previously-veto'd names are Grayce, Lucy, and Faith.
I'll give Celena a try tonight.

Celena Michelle???? Does anyone know what Celena means???

    ;)

I know, that's not too helpful... this is from a mini name book put out
by MeadJohnson, so it's not very comprehensive...

By the way, Salena is listed as "Salty" with Latin derivation
and Sabrina is "From the border", also of Latin derivation,
and Celia is "Radiant" while Sidra is "Starlike" (both Latin again).

Just thought I'd include those while I was looking this up - good luck!

How about Michela (pronounced mik-a-la) if you like Michelle?

    Good luck!

909.9JOSHUA DERICKSWAM1::HERRERA_LIWed Apr 27 1994 18:5113
Well, just to let you know how the saga ended.....

                      JOSHUA DERICK HERRERA

was born Feb. 16, 1994, 8 lbs. 9 oz., healthy and wonderful.
We decided on the day we found out he was a "he", 3 weeks before
    his birth.

FYI, the girls name we finally decided on was CELESTE MICHELLE.
A beautiful name, indeed. But no more babies for us, so feel
    free to use it!!!

Linette, the proud mama of two GORGEOUS boys! ;-)
