17.0. "Aaron Paul" by 8269::LEVETT (if I only had a brain...) Wed Jul 16 1986 13:48

    	My sons name is Aaron Paul. I wanted a Hebrew name for my child.
    Aron as I understand means "from the mountain" referring to Moses'
    brother. I'm not sure where Paul comes from. My wife and I being
    likers of rock music also realised Aron was Elvis' middle name and
    Paul is for McCartney. We also wanted to try and find a name that
    couldn't be shortened.
    	My first name is Stewart which I believe is Scottish don't know
    what it means. My Hebrew name is Schmuel (SHMOOEEL) or Samuel...
    you know who he was.

    My middle name is Paul. As to shortening it, I happen not to like
    it, and just can't picture myself as a Paul. ( My personal philosophy
    of a middle name is that the person should have an identity with
    it, almost like a vice president, if the first one dies you have
    a backup.)

    Because I do not like the name for myself, I have shortened it to
    'P', if I ever use it in legal documents and the like. My signature
    is:
    Randall P Warrens

    It kind of flows and is acceptable to me as such.

    As to its meaning, I believe it means ROCK. When I was in grade
    school, I had to write about its meaning and derivation. What I
    remember is that it means rock and became popular because of the
    use of it be the Roman Saul when he became a christian.

    I hate to disappoint you, but Paul means LITTLE. (Peter means rock.)
     That's my husband's name and the middle name we've chosen for our
     baby (due Dec. 7th) if it's a boy. I think it makes a nice middle
     name.

17.3Ulp! You're right.NCMWVX::WARRENSMon Jul 21 1986 19:0621
    (*An embarrassed*) Garsh!

    You're right! At least about Peter being rock, I don't think I knew
    that about Paul. I doubt that I got a very good grade on my paper
    either. I confused my mythology there, sorry.

    About Paul being a (anyone's) middle name, I meant to convey that
    I didn't like it for myself - not about anyone else.

    One thing about names that I think is phenomenal (literally), is
    the reaction to the names that people are given. For example, I documented
    my reaction to Paul. My older sister effectvely changed her name
    from Kathleen to Katie, my younger sister latched unto a nickname
    'Debo' from her given name Debra.

    Most everyone tells me stories like this about how they wanted to
    change their name or how their peer group changed their name.

    Any others?

17.4Nicknames aren't necessarily shortend form of given nameHITEST::BLANKPost no billsFri Jan 08 1988 14:2413
    My father's name is Thomas Parker. Somehow when he was little,
    a friend of the family started to call him Pete. Ever since that
    time he has been known as Pete. Nobody knows why. Thomas Parker
    is a fine name.

    Well, my older brother (number one son) was named after my father.
    His name is Peter Thomas.

    There are other stories about how members of my family got their
    names. My wife thinks they are quite humorous. Do you want to
    hear them? Is this the right note for them?

17.5HOW'S THIS FOR AN UNUSUAL NAME...16821::SIMMONSPFri Jul 13 1990 12:5311
    RE: 17.3

    I have a very unusual name, one which I have thought about changing,
    especially during my teenage years: PARIS ELIZABETH

    There is no real story behind why the name was chosen, other than my
    mother has liked the name since she was young (and my father chose
    Elizabeth). The response I get is either they love it or they think
    it's wierd! I kinda think it's wierd, but I have gotten used to it.

17.6Oh No! You DON'T like PARIS???KAOFS::C_STEWARTCandace, CSC - Kanata,CanadaThu Aug 30 1990 11:3910

    	My daughter was born on Good Friday, April 13, 1990 and we named
    her PARIS AIMEE (last name is NIGHTINGALE). We called her Paris for
    sentimental reasons, but I thought 'Paris Nightingale' was a
    beautiful name. My eyeballs nearly fell out when I ready .5's note
    and saw another Paris! Are you serious about wanting to change your
    name?

    I've met one person named Paris (a friend's son's friend). He would be
    about 19 now.

17.10Hebrew name?TROA01::RECEPTIONISTFri Mar 12 1993 12:396
    I like the Hebrew name Isaac, so Isaac Thomas... but my mother and
    sisters absolutely dislike it! What do you out there think? Is it an
    awful name for a boy in the 90's? Do you think it will stigmatize the
    poor kid? I like it but I'm not sure now....HELP!
