762.0. "? ? Diaz" by SWSCIM::DIAZ () Wed Jan 29 1992 19:00

    I think I'm stuck in the picking a baby name game. And I could use some
    suggestions. This is the profile.

    Due Date: March 27
    One Daughter: Justine Emmanuelle

    So far my husband seems to have agreed on Oliver Neil if its a boy.
    ( Neil would be after my father, Cornelius. My dad was named after his
    father whose nick name was Neil, my dad was called Connie and he's not
    fond of Cornelius.) Another contender for a boy was Bartholomew
    (I'd nick name him Tholie as a baby).

    I tend to go for "strong" names (if there is such an adjective to a
    name). For girls my list includes:

    Carolyn
    Samantha
    Suzanna

    But my husband has vetoed them all so far and he hasn't mentioned any
    to date.

    I want to stay away from names that start in "J" (too many in the
    family already). Justine was a compromise on my part so this time I
    told my husband he should try to compromise to one of my choices.

    Thanks for any suggestions, I just can't think beyond my list right
    now.

762.1Olivia or Victoria?TIPTOE::STOLICNYWed Jan 29 1992 19:459

    My immediate thought for a girls name would be Olivia - it's "strong"
    and you might like it since you like Oliver for a boy. I also
    like Victoria, Alexandra, and Natalie for a baby girl Diaz.

    Sorry, I don't care for Batholomew and *really* don't like the
    nick name "Tholie".

    Just thought of a couple more strong girls names...how about
    Veronica or Monica?

    Thanks, all the suggestions sound good to me (sorry I can't put
    Jacqueline on my list though, it's a "J").

    How about Lauren for a girl? "Lauren Diaz" has a lovely ring to it.

762.6I'm down to 2 for eachSWSCIM::DIAZMon Mar 09 1992 17:2724
    re:-1 Thanks for the suggestion of Lauren, but it's already used in our
    extended family.

    I think I wore my husband down, last time I mentioned Carolyn he said
    that might not be bad he could call her Carrie as a nickname. I've been
    using the tactic that if I keep mentioning my names one of them will
    catch on. So at this point I have the following names to choose from:

    Carolyn ? Diaz
    Samantha ? Diaz

    Oliver Neil Diaz
    David Neil Diaz

    We might be more inclined for one name over the other as we get closer
    or just wait until he or she has arrived. I'm heading more toward
    Carolyn because I've seen a lot of baby Samantha's lately or is that
    isolated.

    Thanks for a while there I didn't think either of us was going to bend
    and I would hate to pick a compromise name that neither of us really
    liked.

    Re: .6

    I'm a Samantha! I think Samantha Diaz sounds nice, but everyone calls
    me Sam and IMO Sam Diaz doesn't go so well. Carolyn is nice.

762.9getting closeCIM::DIAZFri Mar 13 1992 12:259
    Good point about Samantha being shortened, I didn't think of that.
    Just when I think we're close, my husband asks "what are we going to
    name it if it's a girl". Argh, I thought we had that narrowed down.

    Anyway, out of the blue my husband says he likes Erin for a boy.
    What do you think? Actually it's not too bad for me. Do you think
    it's too Irish for Diaz?

    How about Erin Neil Diaz or Erin David Diaz?
762.10Erin/Aaron?CIVIC::FAHELAmalthea Celebras/Silver UnicornFri Mar 13 1992 13:213
    IMO...Erin is a "girl's" spelling...how about Aaron?

762.11only my opinionTIPTOE::STOLICNYFri Mar 13 1992 14:2810

    Yes, Erin is a girls' name and is Irish-Gaelic. IMHO, I'd steer
    clear of something that is going to be an obvious ethnic mismatch
    with the last name, but that is just my opinion.

    As K.C. says, Aaron is the male version of that pronounciation
    and is of Hebrew origin. Aaron Diaz is okay; but I think you
    could do better!!

762.12Carolyn Victoria DiazSWSCIM::DIAZWed Jun 17 1992 14:357
    It's a girl. We went with Carolyn Victoria. My husband came up with
    Victoria, a feminization of Victor, my Grandfather's name. We had used
    his Grandfather's name for our first daughter's, Justine Emmanuelle,
    middle name. And of course we waited until after our sweetie was born
    to pick her name.

    Cheers,
