P.S. I don't think it's stupid. It's not like you want to name
him Rambo. Rocco existed as a respectable name BEFORE the "Rocky"
movies.

| Well, I used to work with a guy named Rocky. Rocco isn't that bad
of a name, sounds like a bully though and just remember that your
kids image will develope a bit from how others percive his name.
When I first met that guy Rocky - my first impression was "oh brother,
I've meet a "Rocky". then I realized, "he didn't name himself,
his parents did, he just has to live with the name" I wasn't giving
him a chance. He was and is a nice guy. We'd probally all think
differently if the movie Rocky never came out. Or would we? Have
you ever meet a Rocky or a Rocco that was an accountant, a Doctor
or something. The Rocky I knew worked in facilities, the Rocky
in the movie was a fighter. Nothing wrong with these blue collar
positions at all, Im just curious if there are any Rocco's or Rocky's
in the white collar field. Anyone know?

| Rocco actually has quite a long history. It was originally
the name of a 14th century German saint. The German form
is Roch, the French Roche, the Spanish Roque, etc. The
Italian form is Rocco, and this has been fairly popular in
Italy (it still may be popular today).
As the other notes pointed out, however, Rocco has definite
negative associations - at least in this country and at this
time. So, unless you have some very special reason for using
Rocco (grandfather, etc.), I would give it a wide berth. You
may be marking your child for life.

BTW, before Rocky Balboa, there was Rocky Marciano (whose
original name was Rocco Marchegiano).

My father's name is Rocco. His nickname is Rick.
His parents are from Sicily. It's a very Italian name.
He was named after his uncle. Not only is it his first name
Rocco so is his confirmation name. He is Rocco Peter Rocco Triolo.
The only problem he had when he was growing up was many
fighters were named Rocky and people always wanted to
fight him. Also, his handwriting is terrible and sometimes
Rocco Triolo came out Rollo Trioco.
My father is the antithesis of Rocky (I,II,III...). They
only thing they have in common is they are from the same
neighborhood in Philadelphia.
I think it's a great name.

I've got an uncle named Rocco Minichiello, and he named his son Rocco
as well. Growing up, we *never* perceived the name to be humorous or
stereotypical. It was simply another name (although *I* always though
it was super-cool!) It's unfortunate that today's society looks down on
the name as some sort of joke...We're expecting a baby in September,
and if my last name wasn't so non-Italian, I might have a chance at
talking her into Rocco as a middle name. Somehow, Nicholas Rocco
Chalmers just doesn't roll off the tongue!!!
How about using it as a middle name???

My little brother's name is Vincent Rocco, named after his grandfather.
I always loved it as his middle name. Sounds so cool...Just my
opinion.
