991.0. "HELP!!! Less than 5 wks to go!" by FOUNDR::PLOURDE (Julie Plourde) Mon May 13 1996 19:48

Need some help from all you babynamers!!!

Our first born is now 3yrs old. His name is Mitchell Dean Plourde,
and we are very happy with the name. Never waivered when making the
decision. Wish it were that easy this time!!!!

I'm due with #2 - June 15 (less than 5 wks to go!) Ultrasound says
    GIRL.

I'll list the names that we are "discussing". Some of them hubby doesn't
like, and some of them are his favorites... I'd like to get some
un-biased feedback (and new ideas if you have any) on these names and how
you think they sound with our last name. I'll worry about middle names
when we choose a first name! I can't believe how hard this is!

Our last name (Plourde) rhymes with Ford. One syllable...at least the
    way most people pronounce it.

    Rachel
Vanessa (my son likes this one best!)
    Monica
    Elise
    Renee'
    Joanna
    Lauren
    Kristen
    Shannon/Shannyn
    Kelley
    Brenna
    Courtney

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help us! I have a feeling that this baby may come
early. I'd like narrow it down to couple of names to bring with us
to the hospital - then we'll make the final decision when we see the
    baby.

If it happens to be a boy - we've got a few names finalized:

Nicolas Paul (hubby's middle name is Paul)
Cameron Scott (my brother's name is Scott)
Adam Russell (my brother-in-laws name is Russell)
Joel ______ (hubby really likes this one - but we haven't chosen the
     middle name yet).

    Thank you!

    Julie Plourde

    I'll bite 8^)

Of the names that you listed, I like these the best:

    Rachel
    Vanessa
    Monica
    Renee
    Kristen

with Monica as my favorite. I like the 3 syllables with the single
syllable last name. I also think it's a nice fit with Mitchell.
Plourde sounds French to me (is it?) so I think Renee goes well
also. What are your thoughts on middle names?

Of the boys' names, I like Adam Russell and Cameron Scott (but
don't care for the nickname Cam with Plourde). Sorry hubby
but I don't particularly care for Joel Plourde...

I too like the sound of Monica with your last name - very pretty!

    how about Monica Renee?

Good luck! Choosing a name is tough!!

Oh, my hubby will like these notes. His favorite is Monica!
I've forwarded him your notes. I really appreciate your
feedback. It's nice to hear reactions from people other than
family members. It seems family members all have their own
preferences... and they think their opinions will have a major
impact. I hate telling people the names we are thinking
about because you'll always get some weird face from someone.

Thank you cj... I don't like Joel (with Plourde anyway) either!!!
The name is nice, but it just doesn't flow. I like names that
    flow.

Is there any other nickname for Cameron? My husband's name is Ron,
    so that's out!

And, yes, the name is french.

I do know that hubby prefers short (1 syllable) middle names... like
Dawn, or Lynn with the longer first names.

    Keep'em coming!

991.4how about these?FOUNDR::PLOURDEJulie PlourdeWed May 15 1996 13:5017
Been trying to think of some middle names...

What do you think these combinations:

    Monica Grace or Monica Lynn

Elise Nicole or Elise Renee or Elise Michelle

    Rachel Dawn or Rachel Elise

Lauren Julia (Julia is hubby's grandmother's name)
    	or Lauren Michelle

    Renee Elise or Renee Michelle

    	Any other ideas?

I like both Monica Grace and Monica Lynn (also Monica Renee as
suggested earlier). My thought when I saw Lauren Julia was
why not Julia Lauren? - but then I noticed that your name
    was Julie...

What do you think about Danielle? I think Danielle Plourde
sounds great - and is a nice complement to Mitchell.

For what its worth, I personally like names that "match" in
their ethnicity. For some reason, I associate the name Elise
with Jewish ethnicity - is that a valid association? I don't
    really know.

    cj,

Thanks again for your input. Yes, I like Danielle very much,
but I've been hesitant to add it to our list because my cousin's
little girl is a Danielle. We don't see them all that often,
but I just feel like we should avoid too much name-redundancy
    within the immediate family.

I just did a search on Elise in this file. Note 74.1 says it is
derived from Elizabeth and is of French origin. If I had my
babyname book here at work, I would look it up - but I just
brought it home yesterday. I do have distant French relatives
who have an "Elise" in their family, so I'm pretty sure this is
    correct.

Julia Lauren is very pretty, but that would DEFINITELY get
too confusing. I'm Julie Plourde and my husband's grandmother is
    Julia Plourde.

Right now, one of the top runners is Rachel. Hubby seems to
like Rachel Anne right now - but he doesn't get to make the
    final decision!! ;-)

And he likes Monica Lynn over Monica Grace.

We're getting there! I feel a little bit closer now than I did
when I started this note. Definitely need to narrow it down to
3 or 4 names (max) -- had a major labor scare (false labor -
although to me it felt like the real thing .. having been thru it
before) yesterday. Had hubby on-call and everything! It did get
me to finish packing my hospital bag! I think I'll print these
notes and throw them in my bag too!
