975.0. "NEED RUSSIAN NAMES...." by BUSY::BONINA () Mon Dec 12 1994 17:56

My husband and I seem to like a lot of Russian names, I was wondering
if anyone had a list of them they might want to share.

My 3 years daughter is a Natasha Alexis......so one of our favorites
....Natalia is out because it would be too confusing.

We're in need of both boy and girl names.

We're thinking we might want to use the middle name Alexsei for either
a girl or boy....but who knows...that plan could change. I'd love to
use Alexsei for a first name but my husbands not keen on that idea.

Any help would great be appreciated.

in Russia it's only used for boys...)

Can't think of what the spelling would be, but there's a Russian variation
of Elizabeth - something like Elizavieta.

Sasha is a nickname for both Alexander and Alexandra.

Pasha is also a nickname for a boy.

Russian Peter is Piotr (pronounced pee-yo'-ter).

Yekaterina is our Katherine. Katya ("cot'-ya") is the nickname.

Our Richard would be something like Rihurt (that's not likely the right
spelling).

My name in Russian class was Karolina (Carol-ee'na).

Other boys' names (don't know if they were mentioned) are: Yuri, Ivan (which
is pronounced ee-von'), Boris, Josef (yo-sef', I think)
