916.0. "Dawn" by MRKTNG::PRTZEL::MURRY (Friends Don't Let Friends Vote Liberal!) Wed Oct 27 1993 17:20

I haven't seen the name "Dawn" in any of the titles - so I thought I'd add a
note since it's my name and I like it.

Although, it was chosen by my father who owns and trains Thoroughbred race
horses and one of his favorite horses was named "Delightful Dawn", I was also
born at dawn, so it fits!

People laugh when I say I was named after a horse, especially since my father
has since named a new filly "Stormy Dawn" after me! Guess he wanted to
balance things out since I probably wasn't always delightful!

I don't like it when people call me "Dawny", except when my nieces
Lauren or Marah calls me it - it's cute.

I plan to use "Dawn" as a middle name for a daughter if I ever have one.

Formerly - Dawn Marie Retzel
Now - Dawn Retzel Murry
(Dawn Marie Murry just didn't sound right and my husband teased me about
being Marie Murry - he thought it sounded pretty funny)

Dawn is a very pretty name! Do you find that when you leave your name
over the phone or something that people tend to generalize it to the male
    gender "Don"?

Funny, I love the name Dawn, but do not care for Don or Donald.

Yes,

Usually when they get confused it's because they hear a woman's voice, but
hear "Don" and so they then assume it's short for Donna or I am leaving the
message for someone else, like my boss maybe - arrgh!

What makes it worse is the way people in NH and eastern MA say my name - they
pronounce "Don" the same as "Dawn" so that is why they confuse the two.

Dawn - pronounced do^n
Don - pronounced just don, NOT do^n

Good luck on your search for a girl's name!

I love the name!!! we used it for our son (his name is Shachar which is
Hebrew for Dawn). I also knew a girl few years back whose name was Dawn
and she was so nice I've decded back then that when (if) I have a boy
one day-that will be his name (don't know why a boy-here in Israel
many girls are called Shachar as well...).Well-that tme has come-and
    he IS Shachar.
Lovely name. Must be a lovely person...

I have a friend whose name is "Dawnne"; apparently her parents just
decided to spell it that way!

Aurora is another name for Dawn/Dawnne.
