905.0. "Names for a Leary first-born" by ABACUS::LEARY (CORE BREACH IN THE SALSA CHAMBER) Wed Sep 22 1993 18:19

    Hello,

I have quite a few suggestions piling up for our expectant arrival
in April. My full name is Daniel Michael Leary (go by Michael)
and my wife is Cindy Ann (Prescott) Leary. We have asked not to
be told the sex of our child and have many parameters about the
    names.

    1) First name cannot end w/ and ey-sound. (ie. Kelly ____ Leary)
***see exceptions for her favorite girl names

    2) My wife does not go for trendy names nor do I for that fact.
(these include Ryan, Caitlin, Trevor, Devon(i)...

    3) Male names: we are trying to incorporate Prescott as middle name
for Mr. Leary if and when.

    4) Cindy loves Rosemary, Emily (only two so far) Shannon, Abigail
                   Isabelle and Patience

    5) The suffix or middle name cannot be -ann(e) for girl.

    6) The Scottish/Irish theme is predominant but not set in stone.
I like a lot of French names for girls.

    7) Other names that are thrown out by virtue of one thing or another
Timothy-my brother, Mary or Jane-her mom, Eileen and Kathleen
-my sisters, Nicole, Amanda, Rene-friends recent births

    8) Am I asking too much? This is seriously what we're up against!
Any suggestions are more than welcome and please feel free to
really load this note up w/ replies I will consider each and every
       one w/ Cindy.

Thanks to all in advance, am looking forward to more discussions.
Feel free to send mail if you want! These guidelines are pretty
much all I can remember but there may be more....stay tuned.

Mike Leary (one very elated Dad to be!)

Oh yeah! I almost forgot...my younger brother's wife is pregnant also
and due about two weeks into May. I hope they don't make a decision
before us and eliminate any more great names. No biggee if the do
    just another stipulation.

    You too, eh?
I have a list of conditions like that as well.

As a start I would try to find some of the notes with large lists in
them, so you can eliminate as many names as possible, and get some
finalists to play with. There are a couple buried in this file
(actually I put one in somewhere as well).

Do you have a babyname book?

As far as a possible new neice or nephew is concerned, you can keep
you choices of names private until the birth to minimize the possible
accidentally or intentional duplication in name choice, on the other hand,
you also may consider the same name! (my husband has 2 Michaels as
first cousins from his father's family).

I would suggest off hand something with multiple syllables to
    complement "Leary". other

Isabelle has my vote - its a lovely name!

How about Norah, or Suzanna or Brigitta?
(I wanted to give a few names that I haven't seen here lately).

Monica (or how about Monica? 8-) )
905.3Some options...AMCUCS::MEHRINGWed Sep 22 1993 23:4735
    Michael,

I'll try to follow that recipe...

Here are some suggestions that I like with ____ Prescott Leary for a
boy and a few girls name ideas:

    Adam Isabelle Rose Leary
    Gordon Rebecca Michelle
    Connor Samantha Rose
    James Monique/Monica
    Austin Lynette Rosemary
    David Erica Danielle
    Marc Diana
    Stephen Gretchen Rose
    Martin Tanya Emily
    Brian Suzette Rosemary
    Simon Caroline
    Jason
    Andrew/Drew
    Jonathan

Of the girls' names listed, I also like Isabelle the best, then Shannon
and Rosemary (although this one seems a bit "old-fashioned"). Patience
sounds okay, but I just personally don't care for that name, so I'm
biased. I think Emily and Abigail end in that "L" sound that make it
not as nice a flow into Leary. Actually, Isabelle has that L ending
too, but I didn't notice it right away - maybe because it's so soft.

I guess I like the sound of the "in" ending boys' names and "ette" or
"a"-ending girls's names the best with Leary.

    Good luck in the search!
    -Cori

    First, congratulations!

For names, my first choice for a girl from your list was Isabelle
but I discounted it for a first name because of the L's and Leary.
Abigail had the same sound ending. But I do love both names.

    Anyhow, for girls names:

    Christine Shannon Leary
    Shannon Christine Leary
    Barbara Erin Leary
    Erica Suzette Leary
    Shannon Isabelle Leary
    Katherine Elaine Leary

    Boys names:

    George Prescott Leary
    Matthew Prescott Leary
    Aiden Prescott Leary
    Donald Prescott Leary
    Kevin Prescott Leary

    Chris Chang

    Hi again,

Thanks for all the responses. Like the weather, Cindy has changed
her mind about the name Trevor. I am not so sure I like it but
Patrick has jumped towards the front as well. I really think she
likes Caileigh K(eye)lee although it ends w/ ey sound. I don't think
she will go w/ Dale any more which she was pushing hard for. I like
Connor but Connor Prescott Leary doesn't particularly thrill me. Her
grandfather's name James has made an appearance as well. The nickname
JP is the strong influence for a J first name I think. Also Jaime for
a girl is a front runner. I'll keep you posted.

My brother is going to name his child Jonathan Daniel Leary after
the two grand-dads and Brenna is their choice for a l'il lady.
Don't know about the girls middle name.

We are still tossing and turning over our name choices. It is
more difficult that I ever imagined to agree on one. Sheriden
Prescott Leary is up there for boys and Shannon Isabelle Leary
for girls but nothing is set in concrete yet.
