901.0. "Middle name for Demerice" by FMAJOR::WALTER (used to be Aquilia) Mon Aug 23 1993 16:19

OK I wrote a note in the Italian note 102 but have yet to see a
    response in several months.

I am still trying to find a name for BabyWalter. We have chosen a
boy's name of either Paul Joseph or Keith Joseph. My personal choices
for a girl are Andrea Catherine or Demerice but I can't find a middle
name to go with this. I also can't get my husband to agree to this.
He keeps thinking of Demi Moore the actor because of course a short
    version of Demerice is Demi.

Any ideas for middle names? Names in the family are Jeanne, Elaine,
    Anna, Catherine, Barbara, and Carmela.

    Thanks for any help,

901.1Why not Carmela?AMCUCS::MEHRINGMon Aug 23 1993 17:4830
cj,

Well, here are a bunch of potential middle names with Demerice (if you can
convince your husband ;-) and Walter:

	Nicole Diane
	Claire Gayle
	Dawn Kay
	Abby Annette
	Laura Jane
	Michelle	Chloe
	Carla Anna
	Ellen Catherine

I think Nicole and Dawn are my two favorites, FWIW...

Then again, a few other first-name possibilities to ponder - I think Carmela
is very pretty!:

	Carmela Catherine ("C.C."?)
	Jillian Demerice
	Stephanie Jeanne
	Denise Catherine
	Sheila Demerice
	Yvonne Catherine
	Brenda Demerice
	Gloria Elaine

Good luck finding that "right" sounding combination - I know it's tough...

    Hi,
From your boys names, I like Keith Joseph better than Paul Joseph.
Paul Walter doesn't sound too good together in my opinion.

Demerice is very unique. So I would go with a more common middle name.

    Demerice Ann
    Demerice Karen
    Demerice Mary
    Demerice Marianne
    Demerice Natalie
    Demerice Patricia
    Demerice Sara
    Demerice Teresa

Chris, I won't tell my father-in-law, Paul Walter, that you think his
    name doesn't sound well together. :) :)

We chose Paul Joseph because of Keith, my husband's father, is named
Paul and my father is named Joseph. I never thought my husband would
want another Keith but he brought it up a while ago and it surprized me
so I was hoping he would go for this as we both decided a complete copy
of his name, Keith Paul Walter Jr., is not what we want. There is
always Joseph Paul (JP) too but I also doubt that Keith will go for
that because this is his first child and he was adopted so I know its
important for him to start his own blood line if you know what I mean.

I also agree about Demerice being unique which is why I love it so much
and want a common last name. I thought Demerice Catherine sounded
nice. Demerice Ann is also nice.

    Thanks for the input,

    cj,
you may want to analize the rhythm of the name and decide then
how long the middle name should be. I suggest 1 or 2 syllables for
Demerice Walter. (I think these two names sound pretty good together!)

I can see another nickname though, "Rissy". (It all depends on the
person's attitude toward having a nickname.)

No exact suggestions from me - I find it a very subjective thing to
be giving names. You can find them everywhere - program credits on
TV or movies, in books or even on books - go have a stroll through a
    bookstore!

    Good luck!

901.5JOSEPH KEITH or KEITH JOSEPHMPGS::PHELANTue Aug 24 1993 16:0918
    cj,

I was confussed in your note, does your husband "want" a complete
copy (jr.) of his name or not? I think it's a good idea, or what about
Keith Joseph or JOSEPH KEITH Walter is really a NICE combo!! Paul
Keith Walter is nice too. Though Paul WAL...ter does kinda have the
    same sound!

I like Demerice. Would you call her Demi sometimes? I think that is
cute and Demerice is beautiful! I often wondered if Demi was short for
something! I've never heard of Demerice!! I don't even think it needs
a middle name. But, if you like, how about Demerice Jeanne Walter or
Demerice Lyn Walter, Demerice Catherine does sound nice!

    Good Luck!

    Christina

901.6I could go on and onFMAJOR::WALTERused to be AquiliaTue Aug 24 1993 18:0232
I am not really sure what my husband wants. When his mother asked him
what he was thinking for names for a boy, he said, "well Keith, what
else?" and as I said I was really surprized. I don't want to have a
complete copy of my husband's name though as stated in the jr. note a
few back, there is just so much confusion. On the other hand, I don't
    want to dissapoint him.

I do want to keep the traditional family names in as much as possible
but feel that Joseph as a first name is asking too much because its my
family's name and not his. Because of his adoption, I feel that he
should have first name and I can take middle. What a wife eh?

As for Demerice, I would definately have Demi as the nickname, or even
use it more than a nickname. I don't know if Demi Moore's name is
shortened or not. I do know that Demerice is a southern italian name
but have only heard it once and that was an italian friend of mine from
Waltham. Wait till I write her and California and tell her that my
first born could possibly have her name. She would be thrilled to say
the least. I do think that Demi could also be short for Demetra and
Demi Moore does look somewhat Greek. Demetra is definately a greek
name. The way Demerice sounds is Dem-mer-ees. Get it? I don't think
Risse would be a nickname; at least I hope not.

I tend to agree about Demerice Jeanne because its my mothers name, my
middle name and not too long. Demerice Catherine IMO is a bit long.
This is Keith's grandmothers middle name which unfortunately, will
probably not be with us that long; one of the reason why I want to use
Catherine. Her first name is Anna btw which I suppose is also an
option but I think Catherine is very pretty.

    Whatever right :) :)

901.7Trust your "gut"...AMCUCS::MEHRINGTue Aug 24 1993 19:1524
cj,

I think Demi Moore's real name is the Greek name Demitria (not sure of the
spelling, but that's how I heard it pronounced). Also, most people say it
wrong - her family calls her De-mi', not De'-mi. Anyway, the only nicknames
I could see for Demerice would be "Dee" or "Demer", with a soft e, like "Demmer"
which I think are both cute.

I agree with you about the middle names - Jeanne is shorter, but Catherine
is "prettier". If you say it like "Kathryn" with 2 syllables instead of 3, it
seems to flow a bit nicer (IMO). I'm in the same boat - my last living
grandmother's name is Kathleen, which I would like to use, but it can make
for some pretty lengthly names - oh well, to me that's not as important as the
significance, as long as it *sounds* okay.

I also think it would be nice to give a "meaningful" middle name if it's a
girl - same as for a boy. My two brother's got their middle names from my
grandfather and father, respectively, but I got a "generic" one - Marie -
which always kind of bothered me. Maybe not all kids feel this way, but I
would've loved a "connection" to some other relative (provided the name was
reasonable, of course!).

Just more random thoughts...

IMHO, Demerice Catherine or Demerice Anna would be wonderful for a
daughter. I think the significance of having a relatives' name is
important. Middle names are seldom used except on official stuff
like birth certificates, diplomas, etc. So, as long as you really
like it and want to honor your relative, I'd said go for it and
    don't worry about the length.

Hello. I think Demerice is a beautiful name. I like the sound of

the "elle" ending with this name and think Demerice Michelle sounds

nice. You could try Demerice Gayle or Demerice Jeanelle also. What

do you think? Also, I don't know when your baby is due, but are you

any closer to deciding on a name? Please let us know.
