883.0. "It's Kane not Cain" by CSC32::R_JACOBS (fight for peace) Thu Jun 24 1993 23:37

    When I came up with this name it didn't even dawn on me that people
    would refer a specific book and the deed that was done by this person.

    Although it is not spelt the same everyone seems to think this is
    not a good name.

    I really like this name, my wife is not to keen on the middle
    name so it might get tossed.

    Kane Elliott Jacobs

    Kane is Welsh and Elliott is my dads name.

    Well what do you think.

    cheers,
    rick

883.1I like it; and a few other suggestions...AMCUCS::MEHRINGFri Jun 25 1993 19:0025
Rick,

While I like the strength of Kane, I do think you should consider what
both adults ("Cain...") and children might do with it -- i.e. "Candy
Cane", "Sugar Cane". Nothing too terrible, IMHO, but be aware it will
happen.

If you like the sound of Kane, perhaps you might like one of these:

Dane Elliot Jacobs
Shane Elliot Jacobs
Jane _____ Jacobs
Elaine _____ Jacobs

  or

Diane Jacobs			Sam(uel) Elliot Jacobs
Rachel Jacobs			Ray(mund) Elliot Jacobs
Victoria Jacobs			Steven Elliot Jacobs
Lauren Jacobs			Jeffrey Elliot Jacobs
Sally Jacobs			Evan Elliot Jacobs
Samantha Jacobs			Ben(jamin) Elliot Jacobs

Good luck in the search!

883.3It will be KaneCSC32::R_JACOBSfight for peaceTue Jun 29 1993 23:3110
    Thanks for the suggestions.

    When I first saw Kane I thought of the movie Citizen Kane. Everyone
    else thought of Cain. We really like the name so if we have
    a boy his name will be Kane Elliott Jacobs.

    My wife and I are miles apart on a girls name.

    cheers,

883.4Kane definedAMCUCS::MEHRINGWed Sep 15 1993 20:289
Rick,

Just FYI, in my (abbreviated) Names book, Kane is listed as Welsh and
meaning "Beautiful". Cain is not even listed. Sounds like a good
"connotation" to me...

Best of luck finding a girl's name you like as well,

-Cori
883.5Getting close on a girls nameCSC32::R_JACOBSfight for peaceThu Sep 30 1993 15:3311
    Well babytime is just 5 weeks away. Looks like Kane is still the boy's
    name and we have 2 girls names. Whether we have a boy or a girl
    neither of them will have a standard name. We are both kind of leaning
    towards the name Sidney for a girls name. Many of our friends are
    saying go with Montana. My wife loves the name. I gave up about 3 months
    ago trying to persude her to change the name. I must admit the name
    has kind of growen on me.

    I hear that once you see your baby for the first time both names could
    get tossed.  We'll see.

    Yah, names like "Wrinkly", "Red" and "Noisy" might replace them 8-) 8-) 8-).

    Well it's been close to a year now since our son Kane Alan Jacobs made
    his debut into this world so I thought I would give you a name update.

    When people ask what his name is and we say Kane most people kind of
    tilt their heads to one side and say What an interesting name. I 've
    had a number of people say Oh a bible name and others say "Oh as in
    Citizen Kane.

    Our friends children have given him the nickname of Kanegaroooooo.
    Must admit that one never came to mind.
