874.0. "Baby Barney Mark III" by KAOFS::M_BARNEY (Formerly Ms.Fett) Tue May 18 1993 13:00

My Husband Alan and I had picked out names before I ever got pregnant.
We had chosen "Nicholas Alan" for a boy (since he and his father before
him had their dad's names as middle names) and "Charlotte Iris" for a
    girl.

We wanted names that were not trendy, appeared before in the family,
and (at least for the first name) were good in three languages (my
family is German, Alan's is American and English-Canadian, and we live
    in French Canada).

When we found out that our son died in utero at 33 weeks (in the eighth
month) we decided not to use Nicholas for a number of reasons and
called him Daniel LeRoy (LeRoy Barney was Alan's grandfather's name).
Our second child, has just celebrated her first birthday (the
    absolutely marvellous Charlotte Iris Barney).

Now we are planning another child, and hopefully, we will have another
son. However, if, at the delivery, another happy girl appears, we need
a name for her as well.

So; with the following criteria, I am open to suggestions (this is a
lot of fun....put your thinking caps on).

1/ The last name Barney will be hard enough for a child to bear - I
need something that doesn't sound bizarre with it (Barbara "Babbs"
    	Barney is out!)

2/ I don't want trendy names, nor trendy spellings.

3/ I am hoping to find something that will have appeared before in the
family. Charlotte was my paternal grandmother's middle name, and the
name of my husband's great-aunt. (it appears twice more as direct
ancestors to my daughter, a few hundred years past) Iris is Alan's
    	maternal grandmother's first name.

4/ We'd like to keep the first name at least, as something
recognizable (or pronounceable) in our familys' "three official
    	languages".

I kind of like Rose/Rosie/Rosa maybe first or middle name, but I am
unsure if Alan likes it that much. It is the name of my great aunt, and
it would sort of create a floral theme to the names.....I also like
Elizabeth, but Alan isn't fond of it.

    Have fun!

	Monica Lore (Fett) Barney
        & Alan James Barney

Monica,

Congratulations! I've enjoyed (and shed some tears at) your stories of
Charlotte and Daniel in PARENTING notes... Now onto the fun task of choosing
a name for the new little one. I think I enjoy it so much because it's one
thing we have some control over in the whole miraculous birth process. Anyway,
I like some of these names for girls, with Rose as the middle name - don't
know if any of them are "family" names for you or how some might be pronounced
in German (I know French, but haven't learned German - yet) but it's a start.

I think something feminine-sounding and that doesn't end in the "ee" sound
(like Charlotte, etc.) fits best with Barney, but that's just my opinion...

German: French: "American":

	Brigitte Caroline Jillian
	Gabriele Denise Diana
	Hannah Elena Alexa
	Claudia Jacqueline Jamie
	Erika Lorraine
	Helene Madeleine
	Mariel Sarah
	Michelle Samantha
	Rosalinde
	Silvia
	Susanna
	Valerie

Happy naming,
-Cori

    Some nice names there; comments:

    - Erika is my Mom's name!
    - I like Brigitte, but I don't think there is a single incidence
of that name in the family.....
    - Jacqueline is the name of my cousin who is much like an older
sister to me (we are already each others' daughter's godmother's
and were both one another's maid-of-honour!)
    - I mentioned Hannah to my husband last night as a matter of fact,
since it is the first part of Jackie's mom's name (MY godmother)
and I got the second part of her name - it's Hannelore. However,
it did little for Alan in the way of excitement. He was entirely
      "underwhelmed". 8-)
    - Diana - name of Jackie's sister in law. Has potential....
    - Ah, but Helene! Lets bounce that one off the hubby......

    Thanks and keep 'em coming!

    Monica (I AM enjoying this!)

    How about:

    Allison Rose

    Candace Rose

    Sarah Rose

874.5Thought of a couple more nice ones...AMCUCS::MEHRINGThu May 27 1993 20:5219
How about:

	Angeline Rose Barney
	Cynthia Rose Barney
	Joceline Rose Barney
	Susanna Rose Barney

I like them all with Charlotte Iris. By the way, what did Alan think of
Helene?

I also like Emily Rose Barney, from a previous reply.

For something different, perhaps:

	Rosalie Jacqueline Barney

Good luck, Monica!

I like the last one; Rosalie J......sounds nice!

from the previous reply; we've got one for a boy (can't do William -
made Grandma Barney a promise that we wouldn't use any names that
appear VERY often in the family....)
I don't think we'd want to do Daniella.....

But my cousin has a daughter named Sabine - I like the name
a lot (we all call her Binchen - prounounced Been-shen).

I think Leticia Rose sounds very pretty or, if you are looking for a
variation of Rose, my Grandmother's name was Rosina.

874.9My "selections"...AMCUCS::MEHRINGWed Jun 30 1993 17:3918
Monica,

I finally had a chance to read through your list of family names, and have
extracted a few that I really like with Barney, with Charlotte Iris, and
with the possible middle name of Rose (or alternately Jacqueline). Definitely
plenty of variety in there to choose from!

	Eleanor Lydia
	Elisha Melinda
	Heather Nicole
	Helene Melissa
	Jeannine	Rebecca
	Julia Renee

I think I like Lydia Rose or Melinda Rose the best, but they're all quite
nice. Good luck narrowing the list!

    Well,
I am in fact pregnant, so this will have to become a serious issue.
As I mentioned before, a boy's name is covered, but the debate for
a girls name is open. I still favour Eleanor Rose, but some days I
am not so sure. I haven't passed this by Alan yet - we'll see......
