866.0. "Names to go with Dinsdale (2)" by SHIPS::DINSDALE_D (Demon Tester) Wed Mar 24 1993 18:53

Following a previous excursion into the conference for the name of our
first baby (Note 742), I am seeking help with the selection of names
for the latest edition, due 2/7/93.

Our names are David and Julie Dinsdale, and our first son got James
Alexander, the first name being my grandad's middle name, and Alexander was
    Julie's Grandad's name.

We already know the sex of the baby, through the wonders of modern
science, and its a brother !!.

We have debated long and hard and come up with three front runners for
    the first name:

    	Samuel
    	William
    	Stuart

Only William has a familly connection, my Grandad, so that started as
my favorite, but Im getting used to the others.

So, your views, comments please on the first names.

Where you can really help is on the middle names, where the field is
virtually open, save for names that create an acronym, that might stick
    - Orville for example with Stuart or Sam(uel)

We look forward to your suggestions

    Thanks

    Dave (+ Julie)

I hope your due date was a typo - 2/7/93 - your wife is REALLY
overdue!! I'm guessing that you meant 4/7/93.

I reread the original note and Elliott was a favorite name at the
time. Using the four, Elliott, Stuart, Samuel and William, I came
    up with the following:

    William Stuart Dinsdale (My favorite)
William Elliott Dinsdale (WED are initials-don't know if that's a
    			       problem)
    Samuel Elliott Dinsdale
    Elliott Samuel Dinsdale
    Elliott William Dinsdale

Have you already gone through these?

866.2Stuart William or Stuart Jeffrey...?AMCUCS::MEHRINGThu Mar 25 1993 21:4922
David,

Of those 3 names, I like Stuart the best with James...

How about:

	Stuart William Dinsdale
	Stuart David Dinsdale
	Stuart Kevin Dinsdale
	Stuart Joseph Dinsdale
	Stuart Timothy Dinsdale
	Stuart Jeffrey Dinsdale

	or

	Samuel David Dinsdale
Adam Stuart Dinsdale (other way would be SAD)
	Richard William Dinsdale

Good luck,
-Cori
866.3mmmmmm...maybe two middle names ??SHIPS::DINSDALE_DDemon TesterFri Mar 26 1993 19:2729

    Re .1

Thanks Chris, Julie isn't in fact overdue, its the difference in date
conventions between the UK and the US. The baby is due 2nd July 93 !!!!

We like the idea of William Stuart a lot, so that probably get s the
place as bench mark against which others will be tested. Trouble is,
using this methods, the bench mark becomes familiar, so any new
suggestion seem that much more unusual.

By the way, Elliot has lost favour - Julie is a teacher (5-7 year
olds) and a less than favorite pupil is currently Elliot Pain - Pain by
    name and nature !!

Reading .2, I start to think that maybe Stuart does sound better with
James. The other danger with William is that it gets shortened to Willy
(which I hate) or Bill which sounds much older

Maybe including David in the middle is nice, we dont plan for any more
after this one, perhaps two middle names.

    What do you think ?

    Thanks

    Dave

    Stuart David is my favourite.

    Sam

I forgot about the dating conventions differences. Thanks for
    correcting me.

If you are thinking about 4 names and are apprehensive about William,
    how do these sound:

    Stuart David William Dinsdale
    Stuart William David Dinsdale

In the case of William becoming Billy, I have noticed that once a
nickname is used it often remains. So if you and your wife agree
to Bill and use it from the beginning, there is a very good
chance it will remain. Then you can consider:

    William David Stuart Dinsdale

I think that is my favorite so far. Of course, this is just my
    opinion.
