856.0. "Boys name for Gibson" by WOTVAX::GIBSONN (Niki Gibson) Tue Feb 02 1993 14:04

Afternoon..

We are expecting our first in September. Although we have quite a while to go we
have no idea on a boys name..

Suggestions so far:

HARRY - I really like, husband not keen at all (neither is anyone else!)
JAMES - we both like, but cant use (too popular already in family)
JACK - other half likes but, fairly common here rith now..none the less a
         posiblity.
THOMAS - Also an option but quite popular.
JOSHUA - Old but dying favorite.

Middle name would either be Joseph or Anthony (tradition from husband's side)
We tend to like traditional boys names, but at this stage who knows...

856.1Matthew or Jeffrey or...?AMCUCS::MEHRINGTue Feb 02 1993 17:1928
Niki,

Of your list, I think I like Harry the best, but then it does lend itself
to teasing (what name doesn't?)... Here are some other ideas for tradi-
tional names that I think work well with Joseph/Anthony and Gibson:

	Richard
	Michael
	Matthew
	Andrew
	Paul
	Jeffrey
	Daniel
	David
	Mark
	Phillip
	Scott
	Larry (Lawrence?)
	Glenn
	Gary
	Timothy
	Ted (Theodore?)
	Hank (Henry?)

Good luck!

p.s. What is Dad's name and your girl's choice?
856.2Watch the Initials too! PRMS00::TLIGHTONExpectant Father - Handle With CareTue Feb 02 1993 17:3712
Niki,
	Personally, I like Richard, Timothy and Matthew from Cori's list and
Thomas (suprise!) and James from your list. I'd watch the initials though.
From memory of some of the selections on both lists (and the middle name of
Anthony), you might end up with the initals of JAG (not bad if you're a car
buff), MAG, TAG, RAG, LAG, HAG and GAG. It might look kinda funny on anything
he had monogrammed :*). Of course, Joseph would work well with most of the
first names that ran into the problem with Anthony. Good luck...we're still
busy at it with about 4 weekss to go. That with thinking everything was set
for a few months.

856.3Dad's NameWOTVAX::GIBSONNNiki GibsonWed Feb 03 1993 10:4317
    Dad's Name is Neil Anthony Gibson (NAG...as too are my initials)

    Girls names we are settled on:

    Megan Elizabeth - 99.9% sure on this one..

    Olivia Rae - BUT !!! what about those initials....?

    other contenders are Lois, Georgia/Georgina (sp?)

    Thanks for the advise so far.

    Megan Elizabeth Gibson (MEG) sounds really nice.

    For a boy's name, I like Thomas Joseph Gibson.

856.5How about Robert ??WOTVAX::GIBSONNNiki GibsonWed Feb 17 1993 11:2513
    What about this one...

    Husband's favorite is now Robert... but I wont be swayed from Harry I'm
    afraid.... besides, Robert will get so many nick-names (wont he?)

    Is it because I like Harry so much... or am I just being stubborn!!!

    Thanks so far..

    Hi Niki,

    One thing about Robert, if you start with a nick-name you like, it
    will most likely stick. There are a lot of them: Rob, Robbie, Bob,
    Bobbie being the most common. How does Robert Harry sound to you?
    Maybe Harry Robert?

856.7Hmmm!WOTVAX::GIBSONNNiki GibsonThu Apr 08 1993 10:1913
Well, still not getting anywhere!

What do you think of Ben (not Benjamin, as it would only be shortened)

Doesn't it sound to abrupt.. Ben Gibson??

Thanks

Niki

856.8some more feedback...AMCUCS::MEHRINGThu Apr 08 1993 23:0023
Niki,

Well, I don't think Ben sounds "abrupt" (at least Gibson has 2 syllables...) -
I think it sounds okay (I admit I'd like it better if it didn't end in the
same "en" sound as the last name though - just my opinion, of course). Like
Brad Gibson or Kurt Gibson, etc.

On re-reading the other replies, I thought of these possible combinations:

	Harris Joseph Gibson (variation of Harry)
	Stuart Joseph Gibson
	Bennet Joseph Gibson (variation of Ben)
	Ben Robert Gibson (Anthony doesn't seem as good due to BAG)

Also, I still like these choices:

	Matthew Joseph Gibson
	Richard Anthony Gibson

Best of luck finding that "perfect" name that fits all the criteria (sometimes
it seems impossible, huh?). Maybe you'll have a girl and it will be easy!

856.9Still Struggling!!WOTVAX::GIBSONNNiki GibsonWed Jun 16 1993 11:4320
I have 8 weeks left at work and still no closer to a boys name..

new to consider are:

William Robert

Richard Joseph

and Rory......

I still favour Harry, my husband would love Robert, but neither of us is that
keen on the others choice... the only ones we both seem to like together are
Jack and Tom, but as I've said before they are really popular right now.. Is
this something we should even be worrying about???

Thanks so far...

    No one has mentioned ....Brian or Bryan yet. Don't know how you feel
    about these but I think it goes with Anthony..

    Bryan Anthony Gibson........now that sounds good to me..

    Bryan Joseph Gibson......sounds OK both ways.

    It doesn't matter about how "popular" names are as you've already
    mentioned that should be the least of your worries.

    My mother is Irish and I wish she had given me a good Irish/Gaelic
    name.
