847.0. "Need a baby SHAFFER name..." by NIODEV::MIDTTUN (Lisa Midttun,285-3450,NIO/N4,Pole H14-15) Wed Dec 30 1992 16:00

I'm looking for suggestions for our 2nd child, which is due in early
    March.

    Things to consider:

    - The baby's last name will be my husband's: Shaffer (pronounced with a
hard 'a' like the beer). So, we want to exclude 'S-' or 'SH-' first
      names.

    - We are flexible on middle names, but the tradition in my family has
been to use family names (I share the same middle name as my mom and
her mom, my sister's middle name is my mom's first name, and my
brother's middle name is my grandfather's first name). So, since we
passed on my middle name to my daughter, we'd like to do something
similar for this child. This time, if it's a girl, we're thinking of
using my M-I-L's middle name for her (Jane) or if it's a boy, we're
toying with the idea of using my grandfather's middle name (Brayton).

    - We lean towards non-trendy, traditional yet not overused names (we
named our daughter Caroline May). I'd even consider names of
scandinavian decent as that's my family background.

    - Names which are out due to use by other family members or close
      friends:

      Girls: Boys:
      - Jessica - Eric
      - Andrea - Stephen
      - Emily - Matthew
      - Rachel - Robert
      - Erica - Peter
      - S or Sh names - David
				- S or Sh names

     Any help out there?

Lisa,

The first ones that came to my mind were Rebecca Jane and Timothy Brayton.
A few others that I think sound good with Shaffer (and Caroline) are:

	Elizabeth Jane Daniel Brayton
	Christine Patrick
	Victoria James
	Anna Richard
	Leslie Eric
	Alicia Derek
	Brigitte Edward
	Allison Charles (Chuck)

Good luck,
-Cori

    Hi Cori-

thanks for the suggestions, I had been toying with Elizabeth and
Allison as girls names this time around (last time Rebecca was also on
my list, but my husband wasn't terribly fond of it). Daniel was tops on
the list for a boy last time....haven't decided if I'm tired of it yet.
I also like Timothy but we have close friends who just named their son
Tim...not sure if we want to be seen as copy-cats!. I also like the
name Jeffrey for a boy, but my husband thinks the name will have too
many 'FF' sounds with the last name Shaffer...any more thoughts?

Well, I know what you mean about not wanting to use a name your friends have
used - that is, unless it's something you absolutely love. I still like
Daniel, and thought of a few more possibilities:

Angela Jane Shaffer Gregory Brayton Shaffer
	Lindsay Benjamin
	Lydia Kenneth
	Jacquelyn Henry (Hank)
	Julia Jack
					Garrett
					Kevin
					Nicolas

I know you said no S-names, but I also like:

Suzanna Jane Shaffer Samuel Brayton Shaffer
	Stephanie
	Samantha
