845.0. "this will be MY Christmas present!" by FREEBE::REAUME (perfectly<==>connected) Thu Dec 17 1992 14:29

       I know I'm cutting this one close. My wife is due on Dec 21st
    and we are fairly well set on a girls name, Holly, but the boy's name
    is another issue.
       My wife mentioned Branden and Dillon early on and I told her she was
    watching too much TV!!

       Keep in mind the last name is Reaume (pronounced Reem) so here goes:

    		Austin
    		Cameron
    		Chad
    		Derek
    		Jarret
    		Evan

       My choice is leaning toward Jarret Evan but my wife isn't buying it.

845.1I like Jarret!IYQ2::PLOURDEThu Dec 17 1992 16:5234
John... just my .02

      Austin --> I like the name, but it's becoming very common/popular.
      Cameron --> also know quite a few boys recently named Cameron.
      Chad -----> I like, but it doesn't seem to go with your last name
    		  (too choppy).
      Derek ----> Sounds good with your last name - fairly common/traditional
      Jarret ---> I like this, different and yet not WEIRD.
      Evan -----> OK.. but not my favorite.

    I have a friend who just named her boy Garreth Foster (Foster is the
    middle name). It means "keeper of the woods". (The daddy is a hiking
    enthusiast). I like the sound of it. I really like Jarret, and
    Evan sounds very nice as the middle name (I just don't like it as a
    first name. ps.. I am the writer of note 844.0 who is looking for girls
    names... I'm all set on boys names (Mitchell...not sure about the
    middle name -- either Logan or Dean -- I like Dean). Funny how we have
    the opposite problem choosing names!) ... Maybe you're having a girl
    and we'll have a boy to make things EASY! ;^)

    What are the boys names your wife likes? It's hard to both agree
    on names, huh? The girls names I like, my husband doesn't... and
    the names he likes, I don't.

    Best of luck!! Hope you agree on a name soon.

    Julie

845.2Derek EvanKYOA::CHANGThu Dec 17 1992 19:184

    Of the names listed, I think Derek Evan sounds really good together.

845.3Another vote for Derek Evan + some other ideas...AMCUCS::MEHRINGFri Dec 18 1992 16:2823
John,

I have to concur with Julie in .1 on most of the names and with Chris in
.2 that Derek Evan sounds great with Reaume. I don't think it's too tradi-
tional or too common, just nice and solid-sounding. I've never heard of
Jarret, but my first thought is it sounds a lot like Jared and people
may think that's what it is until it's spelled. Personally, I don't like
names like that, but it's JMHO.

I do like Brandon or Bradford, or even Jared or Garrett. Since the due
date is near Christmas, you could also go for Nicholas or Klaus (;-)).

A few other possibilities:

	Gordon
	Lukas
	Nathan
	Justin
	Bennett
	Martin

Good luck,
-Cori

     Thanx for the input-

        Back when I had my first child (Jan '91) we had Justin picked out
    as the boys name and were actually fairly well set on it. As it turned
    out my first child was Shannon Christine (Reaume). And we're still
    happy with the name selection almost two years later.

        I showed my wife Julie's reply in .1 and she said "Mitchell -
    that's a nice name". Thanx Julie, B-}! But my wife is starting to like
    "Jarret Evan" a little better, so we'll see. I also agree that
    "Derek Evan" sounds good as well even though it's more common it's
    not top 10 material.

845.5What does Jarret mean?IYQ2::PLOURDEFri Dec 18 1992 18:1315
    John,

    Do you know what Jarret means? Is it in the baby names books...
    I'll have to check mine tonight. It's always nice to see what
    the name means.

    Jarret does sound a lot like Jarred/Jared, maybe it's a variation
    of that name.

    Keep us posted on the 'name game'!

    Smiles,

     Julie

845.6What about Gregory? RTOEU::KRICKSMon Dec 21 1992 08:386
    Hi,

    What do you think of the name Gregory? Its masculine, different and not
    too unusual. By the way I also really like Mitchell.

845.7More Evan's????HOCUS::PERETZSMon Dec 21 1992 16:467
    I am not sure I am doing this correctly, but here goes. Evan has
    become VERY VERY popular down here in New Jersey -- one can only guess
    if the name is good enough for the BOSS's son (Bruce Springsteen for
    those who live outside of Jersey) it is good enough for any little boy
    so the logic goes... I am of Welsh decent and wanted to use Evan for
    that reason but could not because of it's outrageous popularity. I
    have an Adam instead, also popular but not so bad ;}
845.8Did she deliver yet?IYQ2::PLOURDETue Dec 22 1992 14:1910
    John,

    Did your wife have the baby yet... Today's the 22nd, did she go on her
    due date? I'll check the birth announcements in the Parenting notes
    file and see if it's in there, but let us know if you get a chance.

    Happy Holidays!

    Julie

    Just my feedback on the popularity of the names you've mentioned:
    my daughter has an Austin, a Derek and a Jarrett in her class.

      RE: I'm not surprised at Austin and Derek being that popular.
    What grade is your daughter in?
      I only knew of one other boy named Jarrett and that was actually
    about 12 years ago that I knew the family.

      Oh Yeah - I'm still waiting.. .. like I titled the topic (Christmas

       I'm STILL waiting!!! These babies don't come out until THEY are
    ready!!!!

       Looks like I won't have an extra tax deduction this year. The
    doc said that they won't let it go past January 4th.

    Hi,
    Congratulations on the birth of your son, Jarret. I have heard that
    some parents get a special gift for the older children at home "from"
    the new baby to ease the transition. Maybe that would work with your
    daughter!

    Best of luck with your whole family,

    Chris

        Thanx for the congrats -

        We did get a gift for Shannon and we're making sure she doesn't
    feel left out. She's been treated pretty special during her 23+ months
    as the only child. It takes a little time to work these things out.
