843.0. "Irish/Scottish names needed" by WR2FOR::OSULLIVAN_PA (Automatic for the people) Sat Dec 05 1992 17:19

Hello there! My wife and I are expecting our first baby in May and
we're having some trouble settling on names. Our names are Patrick
and Susan O'Sullivan. We would like either Irish or Scottish names
because my wife's maiden name is Gordon. Also we'd like to use the
name Sinclair or Gordon for a boys's middlename.

So far the only boy's name that we both agree on is Ian Sinclair
O'Sullivan, but we are VERY open to other suggestions! For a girl's
name we had settled on Sarah Marie, but now we've discovered it is a
VERY popular name and that doesn't sit well with us.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

    Hi Patrick,
    Congratulations.

I really like Ian Sinclair O'Sullivan for a boy's name.

If Sarah Marie is becoming too common, how does Sandra Marie sound
    to you?

I was in Ireland last May and here's some names in my family out there
    and others I've heard:

    boy:

Liam (lee-um) (very common in Ireland)
    Connor
    Brian

    girls:

    Brianna
    Bridget
      - there;s several bridget's in my family and they all go by nicknames
for it, Bridie (long i), Briggie..etc.
    Katherine (Kate)
    Megan, Meghan
    Eileen, Maureen, Coleen

BTW - if you don't want common - Ian is becoming very popular this year
    too.

    Have fun!
