830.0. "Names for Strogis " by GEMVAX::STROGIS () Fri Oct 02 1992 19:38

I've been reading this notesfile for a long time and finally, I'm ready
to ask your advice. We are expecting our first in January. I didn't realize
how difficult it would be for us to decide/agree on a baby's name!

I think our last name is difficult. It is a Lithuanian name and is
correctly pronounced "Stroh - gis" with a hard G. It is incorrectly
pronounced "Stroh - jis" with a soft G. My husband's family pronounces it
both ways (depending on who you ask), so the name needs to go with both
pronunciations. The reason I think it is difficult is because of all the
"S" sounds.

My name is Tammy Lorraine Elkes Strogis and my husband's name is
William Anthony Strogis (Bill). We don't like Lorraine, and we don't want a
junior, but William or Anthony as a middle name is OK.

Anyway, here are some of the names we like so far. The list has been
changing almost weekly! PLEASE OFFER ANY SUGGESTIONS! :^)

BOYS:

Scott Anthony (my favorite, but are there too many Ss in Scott Strogis? --
I would call him Scotty when he was a little boy)
Shane Alexander
Adam Christopher
Brett _____
Andrew (Drew for short...?)

GIRLS:

Erin Elizabeth (my favorite for today -- my husband is half Irish and
my best friend's name is Beth)
Lainey Rebecca
Jillian _____
Emily Kate
Allison _____
Holly ______

Thanks in advance for your opinions and new ideas! This is so much fun!

I really like Erin Elizabeth, Emily Kate, and Holly from your girl's
    list.

From the boys list, I think Scot Strogis sounds good together.

I love Erin Elizabeth Strogis for a girl's name and I like the sound
of Derek Anthony Strogis for a boy.

    Just my opinion......

    Good Luck!

Hi Tammy,

Is Elkes your maiden name? My cousin's name is Brett and he has his mom's
maiden name as his middle name (Brett Lane O'Connor) and I like the sounds of
Brett Elkes Strogis.

I also like Jillian Elkes Strogis for a girl.

Good luck on your decision!

830.4Molly or Garrett? (the Irish influence...)AMCUCS::MEHRINGTue Oct 06 1992 22:0724
Tammy,

Well, my favorites of the names you listed are Adam Christopher and Erin
Elizabeth (sorry, but I think both Scott and Shane are tough to say with
your last name and I think Brett is becoming more popular for girls).

I also like:

	Holly Beth Strogis
	Lydia Kate Strogis
	Elke Rebecca Strogis
	Molly Elizabeth Strogis
	Valerie Diane Strogis
	Devon Alicia Strogis

	Drew (or Andrew) William
	Derek Anthony Strogis
	Timothy William Strogis
	Daniel William Strogis
	Garrett William Strogis

Good luck!

830.5Great feedback! Great feedback! GEMVAX::STROGISWed Oct 07 1992 12:5719
Well thanks for the responses and great suggestions! I feel like the name
we will choose is on these lists somewhere, we just have to decide which one
it is!

Sounds like Erin Elizabeth is the big winner for a girl, so far. I also like
your suggestions of Jillian Elkes (yes, Elkes is my maiden name, pronounced
Elks) and I like Holly Beth. No comments on Lainey? I guess that is not
a favorite....

For a boy, I'm confused! I like the new suggestions of Brett Elkes and maybe
Garrett William. I'll have to see what my husband thinks of Garrett, we never
thought of that one. As far as Scott and Shane go, it seems to be 50/50 --
some people think it's too many Ss and some don't. Maybe that is reason
enough to steer clear of those names. But I LIKE Scott or maybe Adam
Christopher of maybe.... AGGGGHHHHHH! :^) Confusing, but fun!

Thanks again for your help! I'll keep you posted.

Thought you all would like to know. Tammy left the company in
December, but she had her baby last Wednesday (February 10)--a
little girl named Jillian Elisabeth. Mother and baby are fine!
