749.0. "Boy's name for NORTON surname?" by DPDMAI::NORTON (Jean Norton) Thu Dec 05 1991 18:12

Any ideas for a boy with last name NORTON? While I prefer to choose
names that would reflect the childs individuality, my husband has
fairly strong family ties and would prefer to use Hammond somewhere in
the name. (Hammond is his father's name, and my husbands middle
name.) Any suggestions with or without the use of Hammond is
    appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Jean Norton

    Hi Jean,

I think it's great to use family names as middle name. Then the
first name would reflect a uniqueness for the child.

    As for names:

    George Hammond Norton
    Edward Hammond Norton
    Everett Hammond Norton
    David Hammond Norton
    Christopher Hammond Norton

Some of these seem a mouthful. But remember that seldom the first
and second names are used together. While it is important that
they don't clash, I think the first and last names have to go together
very well since they are often used together.

Just my opinion, I think the Hammond Norton combination sounds very
    well together.

I like Hammond as a middle name also. I wouldn't care for it as
a first name however. Norton seems to need a "softer" first
name. The first name that came to my mind was

Charles Hammond Norton (Charlie Norton just sounds good to me!)

For something a little less traditional, I also like:

    Kyle Hammond Norton
    Gary Hammond Norton
    Keith Hammond Norton
    Luke Hammond Norton
    Derek Hammond Norton

I think you'd want to stay away from on -on, -in names for a
first name....something like Jason Hammond Norton is too much
of the same thing strung together, IMHO.

Funny you should ask. My maiden name is Norton.

    What goes good?

Charlie Norton (my grandfathers name) or as my father used to call him
     "Chahly Norton"
    Edwin Norton (father's name)
Louis Norton (sort of a family name)
    Terry Norton

I could go on but I don't want to bore you!
