745.0. "Names for surname HOARE" by AUSSIE::TWIGG () Thu Nov 14 1991 19:56

	Hi everyone,

	Want a challenge?

My baby is due in February. I don't know its sex, but at the moment
I am looking for girl's names.

The challenge is they must go with the surname Hoare (yes, it does
rhyme with whore!). It must have NO connotations (if you know what
	I mean).

After much discussion my husband and I have decided that we would
	like a name as follows:

. three or more syllables (but would accept two)

. ending in the "ee" sound (as in Stephanie). The "a" sound at the
end makes "a whore" too obvious (such as Arabella Hoare). A lot of
other endings don't sound right (such as Meredith Hoare).

. not fussy names (like Felicity or Penelope)

. not shortened names (like the two syllable Debbie).

. not a name that can be shortened (such as Beth for Bethany)

	. old fashioned sounding

We have a few names so far, but are running dry. The names are:

		Stephanie
		Rosalie
		Brittany
		Rosemary
		Briony
Valerie, Melanie (not stuck on these)
		Melodie

Can you think of any more?

	Lynette

745.1Hillary/Cassidy/Natalie?VIA::MEHRINGFri Nov 15 1991 12:0217
The first one that came to my mind was Hillary Hoare - this fits all of your
criteria, and emphasizes that the last name begins with an H (not W!!!).
That is definitely a tough one if it's a girl...

I also like these although they don't all fit all of your criteria:

	Cassidy
	Allison
	Amy
	Natalie
	Lindsay

Of the names you listed, I also like Valerie a lot...

Good luck!

I came up with the following:

    Emily
    Leslie
    Melody
    Lindsey
    Joanne
    Judy
    Sharon
    Ellen

    Congratulations and good luck.

745.3Natalie, Valerie, JACQUELINE!?!TIPTOE::STOLICNYWed Nov 20 1991 17:4727

Additional names that fit your criteria:

    Whitney
    Mallory
Courtney (doesn't sound too good with the last name)
Tiffany (I'd steer away from this one)
    Molly
    Kelly
    Audrey
    Stacy
    Kelsey
    Wendy

We have a Valerie in the family and she is the sweetest person you'd
ever want to meet so I'm kinda partial to the name. She has a daughter
named Natalie and I also like that name. A couple of other names that
come to mind that do not end in the -ie or -y but that sound good
with your last name (IMHO) are:

    Jacqueline Hoare
    Shannon Hoare

Good luck, that's a tough last name to work with!

745.4Baby HOARE is bornAUSSIE::TWIGGWed Sep 16 1992 05:1825
For those babynames noters who saw my original note in November asking
for a girl's name to go with Hoare ...

I had a boy! He was born 15 February 1992 and we named him ...

       Riley Frederick Hoare

Frederick is my father's middle name and my grandfather's first name.
Riley is just a name we both liked.

We had decided on his name before he was born. If he'd been a girl
though we would have had problems as we were still undecided
(we had a !short! list of about 10 names!).

    Thanks for the contributions.

Congratulations to you. And I think the name Riley Frederick is
    terrific.
