727.0. "Need help on first name (girl)" by CLT::4GL::CJOHNSON (Eat, drink and see Jerry!) Tue Sep 03 1991 12:40

If I have a girl, the middle name will be Genevieve, which is my
grandmother's name. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find a first
name that goes with that. My last name (married name) is Pelland.

Any suggestions on a first name

    "------ Geneveive Pelland"

    Thanks
    Chris

727.1How about......VOGON::LAVINETue Sep 03 1991 13:5617
I personally think that names which are too short don't go with Geneveive,
so here are my likes:-

Chantelle Geneveive Pelland
Michelle " "
Gillian " "
Eleanor " "

These are fairly original if not unique names, but I think they sound good
together.

I also think they go well with the surname in case you want to drop to middle
name on occasions.

Good luck with the selecting!!!

Suzanne.

The first name to come to mind is Marie Genevieve Pelland.
I agree that one syllable first names would be too short with
    Geneveive as a middle name.

Are you looking for a French first name? Will you be using
the middle name attached to the first one as you call your
    daughter?

No, I'm not really looking for a french name and I will call her
by her first name and probably will not use her middle name (together
    with her first)

What do you think of Cara or Kara? Is this a shortened version
    of a name?

    Thanks,
    Chris

I think Cara/Kara sounds fine with Pelland. But I don't think
it matches very well with Genevieve. Cara/Kara sounds very
modern to me, and Genevieve sounds old-fashioned.

    Do you like:
    	Sarah Genevieve
    	Clara Genevieve
    	Laura Genevieve
    	Maura Genevieve
    	Vera Genevieve

They "sound" similar to your choices, but also are more on the
old fashioned type of names, too. Therefore I think they sound
    better together.

727.5Cara sounds great!CNTROL::STOLICNYTue Sep 03 1991 19:3716

I like the sounds of Cara Genevieve Pelland. My babyname book doesn't
list it as a shortened version of a name; but rather says that it is
Irish-Gaelic in origin meaning "friend". This isn't the ultimate in
babyname books however, since I like it's description; I'd use it :-).

Other names that come to mind are:

    Amy Genevieve Pelland
    Mary Genevieve Pelland
    Tara Genevieve Pelland
    Stacy Genevieve Pelland

Good luck, I do like Cara!

Personal points I'd keep in mind to go with Genevieve:

The first name should be short - 1 or 2 syllables.
The first name should be simple - a "different" first name
shouldn't go with a "different" middle name.

I think that Cara Genevieve Pelland is a lovely choice.
