632.0. "Opinions Wanted - Please help!!" by JUNG::DAMICO () Mon Jan 21 1991 16:04

We are very excited about having our first child, but like most people,
    can't decide on a name.

My husband came home from the spa one night and said "I heard a girl
named Victoria being paged and I really like the sound of that name."
Well I kinda like the name also, but our last name is Damico. I like
Victoria Damico but I'm not nuts about Vicki Damico.

Some other names we've picked are

    Jessica Nicole
    Jessica Tyler
    Jillian Tyler
    Victoria

and if it's a boy we want to name it after our grandfathers

    Anthony James Damico

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

632.1A couple of thoughtsSTEREO::FAHELAmalthea CelebrasMon Jan 21 1991 17:436
I like the name Victoria, and another nickname is Torrie. Torrie
Damico doesn't sound all that bad.

Here's just a thought...what are the GRANDMOTHERS' names?

Thanks for the great, great response. I can't believe I never thought
or heard of that. I can't wait to go home and tell my husband.

Unfortunately my grandmother's (who I love very much) name is YOLANDA.
No way. My other grandmother was Susan, but there are 2 Susan Damico's
    already in the immediate family.

    Great thinking though.

    Thanks again.

632.3Another vote for TorrieEXIT26::MACDONALD_KWed Jan 23 1991 15:177
    Karen,

My neighbor's niece's name is Victoria and also called Torrie,
but they spell it "Tory". I like that name quite a bit also...

Tory is a cute nickname for Victoria. But if your husband prefers
"Victoria", you can possibly use it as a middle name - Jillian Victoria
    for example.

I don't think Jessica or Jillian really go that well with Damico... but
I do think Victoria does (I prefer the spelling Tori for the nickname though,
since it really is an excact substring of the full name).

Other possibilities that I think sound good:

Marissa (Mari for short)
Monica
Valerie
Laura
Denise
Dana
Michelle

Just my opinion,

632.6what's wrong with Vicki Damico?TIPTOE::STOLICNYThu Jan 24 1991 16:3411

Hmm....personally, I think Vicki Damico sounds pretty good! Am I
the only one? I also want to add Rae as a suggestion for a
middle name with Victoria. Victoria Rae Damico....nice, huh?

I agree with .5 that Jessica and Jillian don't go too well with
Damico and like the suggestions of Marissa, Monica, and Laura.
    Alyssa would be nice too!

    Good luck,
    Carol

I also like Victoria Damico very much and Vici Damico sounds nice to
me. I prefer Vici spelt Vici vs. Vicki since there isn't a K in the name
tobegin with. Tori is also pretty. But, if your husband really likes
the sound of Victoria - then you should try to call her that as often
as possible. Tori is a completly different name and her "real" name
could get lost in it. That doesn't seem to happen as often when the
1st part of the name is used occasionally as a nick name, but more so
when the 2nd half is used. My name is Christina and my parents called
me Tina - growing up, most people thought Tina was my name: Now
people call me Christina and occasionally Tina. If it were Chris -
then everyone would say, "is your full name Christine, Christina,
Cristen, Cristal...., but with Tina - that was it - everyone thought
that was my full name... do you know what I mean. So, if "Dad" likes
Victoria - then try to use it ofen enough and what ever nickname you
    choose once in a while.

    Christina

    Other suggestions are:

    Diana Damico
    Talia Damico

Thank you for your opinion. If we do decide to name her Victoria I
think we will probably stress VICTORIA as much as possibly vs. a nick
name. Once she starts school and gets older she can decide herself
what she wants to be called by friends.

    Thanks again

I was going to suggest using both your grandmothers names but the more
I said it the worst it sounded. I will mention that my sister in law
carries the name Yolanda Inez. We call her Yoli though. Personally I
like Victoria the best. And if you always call her that and make sure
to get everyone else in the habit, it will stick. A friend at church
has two daughters, Elizabeth and Victoria, and that is what they are
called... no nicknames at all. They are both beautiful names.

    Congratulations and Good Luck!!
