570.0. "SUGGESTIONS PLEASE" by POWDML::HOHMAN () Tue Aug 07 1990 18:55

    Whoever thought of this notes file had a GREAT idea...my thanks to him
    or her.

    My husband and I are expecting our first child December 20. We have
    agreed on only one girl's name and one boy's name...however, we would
    like to hear more suggestions. Our last name is Hohman (pronounced
    Ho-man).

    The names so far agreed upon:

    GIRL: MEREDITH LYNN HOHMAN (Merri for short)
    BOY: ANDREW LEE HOHMAN (Drew for short)

    I know some of you will say "great" that we agreed on one name for each
    sex...the problem lies that my mother isn't thrilled with the name
    Andrew since her best friend's nephew is Andrew and that is all she
    ever hears "Andrew this Andrew that".

    Also, can anyone tell me what the name Meredith means and the origin
    and the same for Andrew?

    Thanks for the help!

570.1Meaning of MeredithKYOA::CHANGWed Aug 08 1990 13:0912
    According to earlier notes the meaning of Meredith is:

    	447.4	Welsh Guardian of the Sea
    	447.5	English   Great Chief

    As far as Andrew, since you have already picked the nickname "Drew",
    there should be less problems with Grandma since it will not be
    "Andrew this and Andrew that" from you, but rather "Drew this and
    Drew that"!!!

570.2keep andrew!RAB::SNOWWed Aug 08 1990 18:0310
i say keep andrew if you like it! like my mom says, "i named my kids you name
yours." grandma'll get used to it and like .1 says you've already decided to
use the nickname drew. so, do it!

i love DREW! i would love to name my baby (due jan 14) drew if it's a boy but
somehow i think drew snow doesn't sound too good. too many w's.

good luck!

janet.

    If you like Andrew (Drew), use it! But if you insist upon picking
    another name, there are plenty out there that are nice, and will go
    very nicely with your last name. Here's one that you don't hear very
    often, and I think is actually quite nice: Spencer. You could even
    keep the same middle name with it:

    		Spencer Lee Hohman, (Spence for short?)

    Best Wishes,

    Jennifer
