533.0. "Girl's name to go with VanDyne" by SWSCHZ::VANDYNE () Fri May 25 1990 15:31

    Hi!

    I'm expecting in early September, and am having trouble picking a
    girl's name to go with VanDyne. VanDyne is Dutch.

    I'd like to steer away from very odd names, but at the same time
    don't want the too common MARY, SUE, etc. Most of my husband's
    family have one syllable first names (PAUL VANDYNE, ANNE VANDYNE,
    GEORGE VANDYNE, PETE VANDYNE, etc.). One syllable seems to sound
    nice....

    My husband wants to name her Amelia (after Amelia Erhart (sp?),
    the aviator) -- he loves flying. That's too old-fashioned sounding
    for me, but I need some suggestions to counter with.

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks.

    Linda VanDyne

    P.S. Do you like Emily VanDyne?

    How about Amy VanDyne? I too think Amelia is old-fashion.
    Emily is ok. But I think Amy goes better with VanDyne.

    Good luck,
    Wendy

    Just to add my not serious two-cents:

    Randy is super I think,
    and you could try Vanna VanDyne??? Think about it.

    Cheers
    Randy
533.3Some one sylable namesNYSBU::CHANGFri May 25 1990 18:3015
    There are lots of one syllable names for boys and girls

    Paige	Keith
    Gail        Neil
    Jill        Paul
    Rose        Mark

    are just a few I can think of quickly. I love the name Emily (my
    daughter's name).

    Have fun picking your favorites (sometimes two favorites can be
    combined to be used as first and middle names - watch out for
    initials and any words they may spell out!)

    I agree with Wendy... Amy sounds GREAT. I also like Sarah even though
    they're not one-syllable names.

    Of the names Chris just mentioned, I really like Neil for a boy...

533.5In defense of your husband...DOCTP::FARINAWed May 30 1990 19:5111
    Well, my sister-in-law is Amy and my niece (her daughter) is Emily, so
    I like both those names! You might want to keep in mind that Mary and
    Sue (my mother's and my name, respectively) are no longer so common,
    but Emily, Amy, Amanda, and Meaghan are EXTREMELY common right now.

    Sorry, but I vote with your husband! I think Amelia VanDyne sounds
    wonderful! And what a wonderful role model for your daughter to grow
    up with!

    Hi...

       Amy is a nice name but it seems to be very common. I also like
    your husbands suggestion.....But I really like the name "Cora" its a
    very old name but it has a distinct ring...and just a little different.
    Good Luck!!

533.7Try some two-syllables!BARTLE::WHITCOMBMon Jun 04 1990 17:456
    I vote for Amy--out of the choices you've given, but some other names
    that have a nice ring with VanDyne are Loren and Rachel.

    Just my opinion.

533.8Not dutch, but may doSMAUG::RLAMONTThu Jun 21 1990 12:585
    My friend has a daughter and named her Alicia. I also like the name
    Elyse which is a one syllable name as well. I like the one syllable's
    because they are hard to shorten.

    Um... Elyse has 2 syllables.

    K.C. (who loves the name Alicia, and had a very good, pretty, smart,
    talented, etc. friend with that name growing up.)

    Here's a few of my choices, some of which have been mentioned:

    ALEXA
    ALICIA
    ELISE (ELYSE)
    RACHEL

    I know that they aren't one syllable, but I think they sound great with
    VanDyne!
