527.0. "Girl's name with a "L", pls." by 51342::OVEH (Trying not to worry.) Mon May 14 1990 08:52

    Hello there!

    Just discovered this conference, and I do need some help.

    4th April we got our first child, a girl.
    The problem is that my wife and I cant agree upon a name for our
    little daughter. (Does this sound familliar to any of you noters
    out there?)

    We want a short name for her, since she is going to get two last
    names (My wife kept her last name when we got married)

    The two last names is "Bjunes Hunstok".

    Then, we have agreed upon that the first letter in the name should
    be a "L".

    Any good advises anyone?

    PS.

    Not to ecsotic pls, we do live here up in Norway, perhaps Scandinavian
    names for those of you familliar with those.

    DS.

    Cheers,

    Ove

    ...by the way--April 4th was over a month ago! What have you been
    calling her in the meantime? Did you have to fill out a birth
    certificate? I just thought it seemed kind of funny that you still
    hadn't picked out a name for her. Usually, here, names are picked out
    and decided upon before the children are even born!!

    J. (just curious)

    Re.-3

    Well, normally all people (More or less, I suppose...) decides a
    name for their baby even before it's born, but we dident manage
    to do so, due to that we coulden't agree upon a name.
    We have a limit of 6 months to decide a name here in Norway.
    What happens if we dont, well I honestly don't know....

    Anyway, thankyou all for the suggestions, I'm afraid that none of
    the names you suggested did make it.

    We have finally decided a name for her;

    			Linn

    Could this come from the English (American?) name Lynn perhaps?

    Anyway, thanks a lot for your effort!

    Cheers for now,

    Ove

    HI!!

    I was just reading your "note" and I was about to send you my
    suggestion which was none other than

                                         LINN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I was excited when I read that you had chosen that name for your
    daughter! It sounds wonderful and compliments the 2 last names.
    The one sylabol first name give it a simple sweet ring. Do Norwegian's
    choose middle names also?

    Congratulation to you and your wife and may
    God Bless Linn Bjunes Hunstok.

    AND I FEEL THAT THIS IS VERY UNIQUE.

527.10A little late...FENNEL::MACDONALD_KFri May 18 1990 19:559
    I realize I'm a little late here, but I've got a suggestion.
    I lived in Norway during 1986 (beautiful place, by the way)
    and I worked with a woman named Line (pronounced Lee-nah for
    all you Americans :-) ) and I've always liked that name. Linn
    *is* a very pretty name, however, and you should be happy with
    what you choose. Congratulations on the birth of your little girl...

527.11A good #2OSL09::OVEHTrying not to worry.Mon May 21 1990 10:3818
    Re-10.

    Funny to read your suggestion on Line.
    That was the name my wife wanted the most, but I could not agree
    upon it.

    Anyway, interresting to see that you have worked here in Norway,
    could I ask where and for whom? (Reply on mail, if you want to)

    Takk for forslaget, det var en god nummer 2!

    (Did you get that?)

    Vennlig hilsen,

    Ove

    A little late, but my name is

    Lizbeth

    Not Elizabeth or Lizabeth.

    I go by Beth, because people have this compulsion to add the 'E' or
    'A'.
