I was born in 1958 and was given an unusual name: Minden Pearl.
The "Pearl" is after my father's sister. The "Minden" was a name
my mother overheard another mother calling her daughter. I enjoy
my name very much (my nicknames were "Mindi" or "Min"), but I have
yet to see it or hear it anywhere, except twice: once, a Belgian
man I met on a plane told me it is German, and the second time,
someone passed on to me a bit of trivia: the ship Francis Scott
Key was held captive on when he wrote the "Star Spangled Banner,"
was a German ship called the "Minden."
Does anyone know what this name means? You can imagine I've been
curious.
