408.0. "Kirby, Kendyll, etc.." by WAV12::AROIAN () Wed Jul 19 1989 18:47

We are expecting our 2nd baby on Sept 5th. I decided to add a note
to get last minute suggestions or opinions.

Our first child, a girl, is named Kelsey Leigh Aroian.

Our choices so far for the second are:

    Boy
    ---

    Phillip Michael **
    Derek
    Alec

    Girl
    ----

    Kendyll ?
    Kirby Lyn
    Juliet Nicole

    Problems:

. We can't think of a middle name for Kendyll.
. * My husband won't budge with Phillip unless something better comes
along (the other names are my add'l choices)
. I like uncommon names, he's semi-traditional (he hates Jillian,
Brittney, Joelle, Janelle, Jolie, Kaylee, Ainsley, etc....)

I'm looking for other suggestions for names that go with "Aroian".
Names ending with "a" don't work well, but many are so nice...

    Any suggestions or comments?

    Laurel (whose name is uncommon)

    WELL LAUREL AROAN!

HOW ABOUT KENDALL PAIGE. MY NEICE'S NAME IS NICOLE PAIGE AND I
LIKE IT. I THINK KENDALL PAIGE AROIAN SOUNDS GREAT.

AS FAR AS A BOY'S NAME, RICH WILL NEVER CHANGE HIS MIND.

HOW ABOUT "JORDAN". I HEARD THAT IN A MOVIE THE OTHER NIGHT. THE
LITTLE BOY WAS SO CUTE. IN FACT, IF I HAVE ANOTHER (BOY) MAYBE
I'LL USE IT. FORGET I MENTIONED IT.

JUST THOUGHT I REPLY. I NEVER REPLYED TO ONE OF "YOUR NOTES" BEFORE.
     THOUGHT IT WOULD BE FUN.

Same kind of thing can be said for names that *begin* with "a."

> Kendyll ?
> Kirby Lyn

I know these kinds of names are popular these days, but these
might be a bit much. On the other hand, though, your child might
grow to appreciate the uncommonness. To avoid the oh-you're-a-
girl phenomenon, you might want to stick with some name that
already has some association with females -- Brittney, Courtney,
Paige, even Taylor (Taylor Dayne, right?). Also, Kirby doesn't
sound feminine to me at all.

> . I like uncommon names, he's semi-traditional (he hates Jillian,
> Brittney, Joelle, Janelle, Jolie, Kaylee, Ainsley, etc....)

Some of these are not so uncommon (Brittney, for example).

I know a 16 year old named Kendall. Her middle name is Marie. I
also know a 5 or 6 year old named Kendra so I don't think they are
    that uncommon.....

re: .1 "Hi Angela". I've thought of Paige. It's circled in the
baby name book as a middle name consideration.

I like Jordan, too. But try saying "Jordy Aroian" if
he/she is nicknamed. That's what "nuked" it for us...

re: .2 I don't think names beginning with "A" are much of a
problem unless they sound "sing songy". Names that
end with an "a" are a mouthful to pronounce.

Perhaps you missed in my previous note that my husband
HATES the names Brittney, Courtney, etc... Although, I
agree with you that there pretty names, he won't budge
(hasn't since they were mentioned for Baby #1 !!!)

We still both like Kirby, Kendyll and Juliet.

I also like Kiley (he doesn't) for a boy, but also just saw it as a
girl name, too. I think one way to spell it is "Kylie".
I also like "Kaylen", but am not sure of the "-en" ending with "Aroian".
"Kayley" is nice, too, but our best friends dog is named that!!!

We are not intentionally picking out "K" names, but the hard sounding
"K" consonant (sp?) seems to sound best with "Aroian".

    Keep thinking, please....

Why don't you use the mistake happening in the firstname of Miss
    Streisand ---> Barbara ===> Bar'bra Aroian doesn't sound so bad ?
Vincent (I like this one so much ...)
408.6Kendyll, Kylie, KyleUSWAV1::POTHIERFri Jul 28 1989 15:158
Kendyll is a very nice name. Sounds like you need a one syllable
middle name to make it fit with the last name. Kendyll Rae is nice,
but not sure how your last name is pronounced. Don't use Kylie for
a boy's name, as far as I know that is the feminine version. Kyle
is the male version. Actually that would be a nice name for a boy

Here's my stab at helping reduce gender confusion in the
Aroian family (with help from Dunkling and Gosling, the New
	American Dictionary of First Names):

o Kendall (m) ... Kendal itslef is used, and Kendell is a
	   rare variant

	o Kirby (m, f) ... used as a Christian name in the 19th cent.

o Kyle (m, f) ... may have influenced the later use of several
feminine names (see Kelly), itself being used on occasion to
	   name girls

	o Kylie (f)

Though it's usually okay to give a girl a boy's name, it just
doesn't work in the opposite direction. Check a dictionary to
make sure of the sex of the names you like.

You might also find some other "k" names. Here are a couple
	that I found:

	o Kane (m)
	o Kayley, Keeley (f)
	o Keir, Kerr (m)
	o Kelda (f)
	o Kerry (f)
	o Kieran, Kyran (m)
	o Kyra (f)

Please don't name your child Kirby - there is a vacuum cleaner
by that name. And Cliff probably thinks naming a girl a boy's name
is ok, because he's a man. I grew up getting trial subscriptions
to boys' magazines and invitations for boy scouts. I even recieved
a letter notifing me that I had to register for the draft. It's
    no better either way.

408.9Down to the final weeks...WAV12::AROIANMon Aug 07 1989 17:3928
My husband came home the other day and said "I've almost come to
a final decision on the names!". Oh, really!!

Well, folks, after over 2 years of not budging on "Phillip Michael",
he said "Nicholas Michael for a boy, and Kendyll for a girl".

Where did Nicholas come from?? Who knows?? I thought I was the
one with the weird hormones that made me finicky and unable to make
    decisions!!

Well I still need a middle name for Kendyll. My last name is
    Aroian ( pronouced a-ROY-an).

I'm not 100% on Nicholas, but now that my husband is on the edge,
I'd still like suggestions of some names. (Not too popular).

I saw the name "Brady" the other day. How about "Brady Michael
    Aroian"?

I starting to get nervous... Last time we had a boy's name and not
a girl's. We had a girl. My 'ol gut is telling me that this one's
    going to be a boy!!!

    Help still needed!!

    Laurel,

How about Kendyll Lynn(e)????? Maybe it flows a little too
well but it sounds pretty. . . Since you've been looking at names
could you take a look at note 415 and see if you have any brainstorms?
