395.0. "Only 8 weeks to go!" by HPSRAD::LINDSEY () Thu Jun 01 1989 16:19

    I would like some advice on names that go well with Lindsey.
    My husband doesn't care for any of the girl's names I have
    picked and I only have 8 weeks to go.

    I like:

    Jessica Suzanne
    Stephanie Marie
    Katherine Elizabeth

    He mentioned the name Marissa, but I am not sure he's that happy about
    that.

    If its a boy, we both want the name Stephen, but are unsure of a middle
    name. We like Stephen James, but I would kind of like the middle name
    to be after one of our fathers.

    That leaves Stephen Frank
         or
                Stephen Robert

    Also does anyone have any opinion on the spelling of Stephen. Do you
    prefer Stephen or Steven?

    If you got any other ideas, we would love to hear them. We don't care
    for highly unusual names but rather it not be "too common" or too
    faddy.

    Thanks,

    Sue

    I like Steven (v) Robert. Not sure why, but I like the looks of
    that spelling better. It's "cleaner" somehow since he'll inevitably
    end up being called Steve either way.

    How about Lindsey Susan? Marie and Elizabeth work it that too,
    I think.  Lindsey Catherine, maybe?

    Since you like Steven/Stephen and there are several girl's names
    you like, you might want to stay away from Stephanie (even though
    I like it a lot) if you have a girl in case you get a boy sometime
    in the future (and want to use Steven then).

    But Tracey, re -1.... Lindsey is Sue's (.0) last name.

395.3MRVAX::OSTIGUYThu Jun 01 1989 19:244
    To continue, I like the Steven better also. I've known some
    people to pronounce Stephen as Stef-fin...... That's my reason.

    What names does your husband like besides Marissa?
395.4Have you thought of this one?CAPNET::BARKERFri Jun 02 1989 11:447

    I too prefer Steven Robert for the boy.

    I had a new idea for a girls name though, how about Angela Marie
    Lindsey? It has a certain ring to it, don't you think?

395.5I'll try again...EDUHCI::WARRENFri Jun 02 1989 14:257
    Re. 2

    Oops. I read "names to go with Lindsey" and thought she meant she
    needed a middle name. Should have looked at the user name, silly...

395.6there were no other namesHPSRAD::LINDSEYFri Jun 02 1989 15:0516

    Anna, He hasn't come up with any other names...he thinks Katherine
    is ok though. I don't know why we are finding this so difficult!
    We've been through 2 of the best baby name books and have been thinking
    about this off and on even before we were married! Generally speaking
    he doesn't care for girl's names that can be shortened to a boy's
    name (jessica is jessie, joanna is jo) and thinks we have to be
    careful with names that end in "ie" with lindsey.

    Angela Marie would go well, but again we would have the problem
    if they used her nickname, Angie Lindsey.

    Thanks for the advice thus far...

    Sue

395.7How about this one?CAPNET::BARKERFri Jun 02 1989 16:118

    I see what you mean about names ending in "ie". How about Elizabeth?
    I always liked the nickname Beth (not Liz). Both the long and the
    short names sound nice with Lindsey. Elizabeth Lindsey and Beth
    Lindsey.  What do you think?

395.8VLNVAX::OSTIGUYFri Jun 02 1989 17:0713
    How about,

    Rachel Lindsey
    Carla Lindsey
    Briana Lindsey
    Colleen Lindsey
    Erica Lindsey

    Just a few, and don't worry. My husband and I hadn't picked my son's
    name until a week after his due date.

    Good Luck

	Check out 353 -- all of these names are in the top 10.

	The only differences between the two are that Stephen is older
	and is more popular in the UK.

	I also agree with Tracy about Stephen and Stephanie.

395.10Well, maybe just not too faddyHPSRAD::LINDSEYTue Jun 06 1989 20:4817

    Yes, I am aware that the names are fairly popular...even in the 1988
    list I have looked at, but I think for the most part they are classic
    names that will not be linked to any one era (especially Katherine).

    Regarding a few notes back, my husband likes the name Elizabeth...
    I think too, we would call her Beth (we don't care as much for Liz).

    Anna, I like the names that end with "ana". They seem to go well
    with Lindsey. One of the ones I was considering was Joanna, but
    that breaks with my husband's rule of shortening to a man's name
    (Jo or JoJo)...

    Thanks for the feedback...

    Sue

    Okay, with 'ana' endings... I'm looking through my book now.
    I won't include any with 'l's', i.e. Alana Lindsey doesn't sound
    right.

    Briana
    Dana
    Diana
    Deanna
    Edana  (I don't like it)
    Ivana  (same as above)
    Justina (sort of like 'ana' ending)
    Lana
    Oriana
    Raina
    Shaina
    Zorana

    Some of them are a bit unusual. What do you think of Hannah?

    Dear Sue,
                                                                     u
    like names that end in -ana how about Adrianna. My girlfriend named
    her daughter that and the more I hear it the more I like it. Let
    us know.....

    Cindy
    I too like Elizabeth since it is my daughter's middle name. If you

395.13we'll think about those...HPSRAD::LINDSEYThu Jun 08 1989 15:3212

    Yes, we thought a little about Hannah...I never liked it as a child,
    but it has been growing on me recently...Adrianna, not bad, I will
    run it by my hubby. The one consideration with both those names is
    they don't really have a nickname...they don't shorten easily. Not
    sure if that's good or bad.

    Thanks for the suggestions!

    Sue

395.14Marianna?AITG::MCGEEHANMon Jun 26 1989 19:176
    What do you think of the name Marianna? Haven't thought of a good
    middle name to go with it, but...just thought I'd add the name to your
    list of possibles...

    Good Luck!

395.15VLNVAX::OSTIGUYWed Jul 05 1989 11:563
    I have a cousin Marianna. She in her early 20's. She doesn't have
    a middle name, her first name seemed to be enough. I've always liked
    it and she's the only one I've ever meet.

    Re .11:

    Anna, when listing 'ana' names, you left out your own! I like
    Anna Lindsey.

    I also like Elizabeth (Beth) and Katherine (Kate). I agree you
    should stay away from names with a "y" ending.
