383.0. "JACOB or ALEXANDER???" by SALEM::FORTIN () Thu May 04 1989 14:05

    	  I'm expecting my first in September and my husband and I
    	have been juggling names since we first found out I was
    	pregnant. We had no problem agreeing on a girl's name but
    	are at a toss up for a boy's. If it is a girl, her name
    	will be Cassie Michelle (short "a" like the fish, bass).
    	As for the boy's name, we've narrowed it down to 2. It was
    	tough because most of the names I like end in "n" and they
    	sound silly with our last name. The names we can't decide
    	on are, Jacob Isaiah (Jake for short) and Alexander Isaiah
    	(Alex for short). My husband is dead set on Isaiah so that
    	is not negotiable. I would appreciate your opinions. They
    	may help me to decide.

    	  Thanks in advance,

        +Carina+ (I was told by my mother that it means "dearest"
    	         but the baby name books say "keel")

    P.S. I was told by a teenager at church that if we named him
    Alexander, she would babysit for free. Should I take that into
    consideration? :-}

    I think Alexander Fortin sounds real nice. (Alex Fortin) It seems
    to sound a bit better than Jacob Fortin. Somehow the x ending flow
    into Fortin smoother than the b ending in Jacob. Ya, say it a few
    times and you'll hear what I mean.

    Oh and definately, free babysitting is worth choosing Alexander
    especially if you agree that it sounds nicer!

    Good luck!

    My sister-in-law, Ingrid, just had a little girl yesterday! 8lbs.

    They named her -

                                Linnea Kirstin

    (Pronounced: Lin A ah) Pretty huh?! My brother has always loved
    the named Linnea and Kirstin is for Ingrid's Swedish Mother.

    ((just thought I throw in my news)).

383.2One Vote for AlexanderSHALOT::ANDERSONGive me a U, give me a T...Fri May 05 1989 14:3418
	Male names with heavy Biblical overtones (Joshua, Eli, Jacob,
	etc.) were very popular a couple of years ago, but seem to be
	on their way out. I kind of like Jacob, though -- it was never
	as popular as, say, Joshua. Personally, I never cared for the
	Biblical names too much -- they always seemed a little heavy.

	If you MUST have Isaiah as a middle name, you might want to shy
	away from a Biblical first name -- such as Jacob. Isaiah is
	extremely heavy and Biblical.

	If you do decide to name your baby Jacob, consider also whether
	you like the name Jake. No matter how hard you try, he'll wind
	up being called this quite a bit.

	I like Alexander just fine. I have a feeling, though, that
	this is going to be a very popular name in the coming years.

383.3One more vote for Alexander...BITS1::HAGENWed May 10 1989 11:209
383.4Another cast for AlexanderSKIWVA::FSCNOTue May 23 1989 13:349
    Another vote for Alexander, Jacob and Isiah is just too much for
    one little boy to carry. Alexander always makes me think of Alexander
    the Great which may appeal to a little boy's imagination.

    Also the offer of free babysitting is definitely a plus, provided
    she is a reliable character. Also maybe you should get her to put
    it in writing.....

    	Thanks for the replies so far. I think we might go for Alexander.
    My husband doesn't know this yet, so Michelle, if you are reading
    this, don't say anything. I personally would prefer Jacob Andrew
    if we were to name him Jacob but the first boy has to have Isaiah
    as a middle name.

    	It's funny how some of you think Jacob Isaiah is "too" biblical.
    I like it because of that. In fact, that is why my husband wants
    Isaiah as his middle name, because it is very biblical. As for
    biblical girl's names, Ruth just doesn't do it and we already have
    a cat named Naomi, Mary isn't very interesting and Delilah has too
    much of a stereotype.

    	Please keep the opinions coming. I'd like to know what everyone
    thinks.  Thanks again.
