I used to baby sit for a family from Italy, and their daughter's
name was Kiara, (pronounced Kee ara). I thought it was a beautiful
name. Their sons were named Andrea (An dray a) and Luca.

    Hello,
my name is Giovanni (nickname Gianni), and I work in DEC-TURIN
    (ITALY).
I read with interest this note, because so far I didn't know
that Italian names are also used abroad by not Italian people. The
same thing is happening viceversa also in Italy now, so foreign names
    are sometimes used by us.
I have some doubts about the .2 list. To understand better what
I mean, you should consider that Italian southern people have a
different "culture" and "traditions". Names like: Angelina, Anna-Maria,
Lucia, Carmelo, Pasquale, Rosario, Salvatore,Carmelina (.5) are pretty
names, but typically used in the south of Italy, or by southern people.
These names are never used by northern people. What is funny, is that
expecially southern people are starting now to use foreign names,
instead of the Italian or "traditional" ones.
Still about .2 list, I've never heard the names Liberio and
    Saberio (could be Saverio, but...).
Guiseppe, Giovanina (.4), Kiara (.3) must be written: Giuseppe,
Giovannina ( but more used are: Giovanna, Gianna) and Chiara.
One more consideration: even if many Italian people have a
second name, only the first one is usually used.
By the way, my son (3 years old) is called LORENZO GIOVANNI
(but we call him only Lorenzo), while my daughter (only 10 days
"old") is called CRISTINA LAURA (and we call her Cristina).
If Magnus or anybody else is still interested in Italian
names, I'll prepare a more complete list. I wait for your replies.

My friends (very Italian) just had a baby girl and named her Gianna.
Although I am not fond of the name for a baby, I think it will make for
a beautiful name as a grown woman and I haven't heard of anyone else
with it as of yet either.

    Good luck!

My grandmother's name is Fernanda (the a's are pronounced like
the a's in "ah ha") (Nanda for short). Her parents were Virginia and
Louigi (sp? - the American is Louis). Her brothers were Fred and
Angelo (Angie for short). They were all born somewhere near Rome.

There's a woman who works down the hall from me and her name
is Gia. I asked her if it was short for anything and she said
that it wasn't, but I suppose it could be a nickname for Gianna.
At any rate, I really like the name Gia and now that you mention
it, Gianna is very nice too.
