| I've never heard of Mallory until the T.V. show "Family Ties".
I think it's a pretty name, but they say; stay away from "faddy"
names i.e. t.v. soaps, movie stars etc.
Overall, the character of "Mallory" is portrayed as "a dummy", so
beware of that also!
This is the last season for this show, however, the name will be
"labeled" for a good long time. It was a #1 prime time show for years.
Also, it will be in syndication for another 10 years or so.
In my opinion, it's something to think about.

| RE: 1
I'VE ALREADY NAMED MY DAUGHTER MALLORY, SHE'S 4. I DID GET THE
NAME FROM THE T.V. SHOW "FAMILY TIES", BUT NEVER ASSOCIATED IT
WITH BEING A NAME FOR A "DUMMY". I JUST HAPPENED TO LIKE THE
NAME AND I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE EITHER ENGLISH OR IRISH. I'M SURE
THE NAME MUST HAVE BEEN AROUND BEFORE THE T.V. SHOW. I HONESTLY
DON'T THINK THAT JUST BECAUSE HER NAME IS MALLORY PEOPLE ARE
INSTANTLY GOING TO THINK SHE'S STUPID, I KNOW A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO
HAVE THE SAME NAME AND TOTALY DIFFERENT PERSONALITIES, DON'T YOU?

| Good advice in .1 -- the effect of mass entertainment on
given names in this day and age cannot be underestimated.
As .1 said, this means both popu;arity and associations.
Here's something else to consider (from the New Dictionary
of First Names, Dunkling and Gosling, Signet, N.Y., 1983
-- no permission):
Mallory (masculine) French "unlucky, unfortunate."
Nickname which became a surname, and now used from
time to time as a first name.
