326.0. "An Arabic Girl's Name" by WFOOFF::GONCALVES () Mon Dec 19 1988 22:33

I met a person this week by the name of SORAYA,
    (pronounced Sor-rye-ya).

I know that it's Arabic. But what does it mean?

    I like it.

    Thanks,

    Shelly

    Hi there ,

Just to say that , no I don't know what it means , I have some others
    that might help .

Basiclly I have been christened with an Turk/Aribic name ,
I've been adoppted , so I've also got two English first names & One
German last name , but Aribic name that I have is * Mustafa * the
way it is spellt is of a slight veriation of the normal way , which
    would be *Mustapha * .
So there is another one for your list . * Hassan * is anoyher .

I've also have a sister , who was adopted by different people , and
her name is * Robia * . Now this name is commen , but the way it is
normally spelt is * Rabia * which means Rabbit , so the way she had
hers changed to is of a more upper class style of spelling it .
and it actully does go fairly descent with European or American last
names . You can also shorten it to *Robs* .

I hope this has given you some ideas .
