318.0. "Sanity Check--Ashli?Amber?Tony?" by NAMBE::PHUNTLEY () Tue Nov 22 1988 19:20

    With a new baby on the way sometime near mid June my husband and
    I have been talking about names since we found out about this(our
    first) baby.
                 How about Ashli Ann or Amber Ann?
                 Or William Anthony Oneal?

      How do these sound with the last name Huntley? I don't really
    like four names for our son but to keep peace in the family we
    should use William(4th gen.) and Oneal(my father's deceased brother)
    and I really don't care for either of those--would like to call
    my son "Tony". So how does the general public feel?

318.1the choice should be yoursTADSKI::KULPWed Nov 23 1988 15:1116
    I personally vote for Amber. That was a name I seriously considered
    for my daughter (Alicia). I really have a thing about Ashli, it
    has become kinda like fingernails on a blackboard for me (no offense
    to those who use and love the name.) It's just used so much lately
    and I never really cared for it much to begin with. I always think
    of the wimpy guy in Gone with the Wind!

    The boys name is a bit long. I think it sounds a little better
    if you leave one of the names out, but they are all nice names.
    Sounds like a tough decision, but remember, this is your child,
    your parents already got to name you without asking your opinion!
    Go with what you really like, they will love the baby no matter
    what his name is.

    I say name your child a name that you and your husband chooses...

    It is long 9 months, I personally will not name my child to suit
    my family...

    I vote for Ashliy (female) Lance (male)
318.3Too many aspirated first letters.KAOFS::S_BROOKHere today and here again tomorrowMon Dec 05 1988 16:099
    With a surname that starts with an aspirated letter 'H', I would
    avoid given names that start with an aspirated sound, and definitely
    would not use 2 in a row. Names starting with a consonant seem
    to flow better.

    I don't know if it's just me, but in attempting to say Ashli Huntley,
    I find that I stall just before the last syllable of Huntley.

    I agree with Robin, name the baby what you and your husband want.
    For the girl I vote Amber, Ashli is just too popular right now.
    What's funny is my cousin had twin girls and named them Ashley and
    Amber.

318.5Besides being SO popularEDUHCI::WARRENMon Apr 24 1989 18:445
    I don't care for Ashli with Huntley. Though both fine names, the
    two "lee" sounds are too much together. IMHO.
