315.0. "Christine" by CSG001::HAMMOND () Mon Nov 07 1988 20:24

Does anyone have any suggestions for a middle name to go with
    Christine?

We've been mulling over names for our April'89 baby and Christine
is currently on the top of the list for girl's names.

I'd prefer to avoid the middle names of Marie or Ann just because
    they're so popular.

    Thanks.

    How about...

    Christine Lee
    Christine Elizabeth
    Christine Michele

I don't think they roll off the tongue very easily. I think the middle
name for Christine should start with a vowel. I do like

> Christine Elizabeth

though.

How about :

	Christine Annette ?

Before I even read reply .3, the first thing to come to my mind
was Christine Angel(a). What a coincidence.

Even though Christine Angel sounds very pleasent here are a few
you migh like to consider as well:

    	> Christine Ebony
    	> Christine Eleanor
    	> Christine Octavian
    	> Christine Alise
    	> Christine Ulyness

315.8Elise - Alise ??CSG001::HAMMONDMon Nov 28 1988 15:269
I like the earlier suggestion about using a middle name beginning
with a vowel. Not crazy about all the names suggested in .-1,
    but...........

When I started thinking 'vowel beginning', Elise popped into my
mind... Christine Elise. I also was wondering about the spelling
with an A - Alise. Anyone ever heard of this (as opposed to Alice)?

Thanks for the help....... I'm still listening.

Christine Elise sounds pretty. I bet you'd find yourself using
her whole name often, too. Reminds me of my cousin Dawn Elise,
who everyone calls Dawnelise, like it was one name, and Shawn,
(a girl) whose name is Shawn Marie, but we all have come to call
    her Shawnarie (Shawn-a-ree').

My family is into nicknames. Everyone still calls me Stacaleenie,
or Stacie K. (my middle name is Karen). Funny how things stick.

    Stacie

My brother just had a daughter on December 31st.
Her name is Christina Rose. I think that it's kinda nice.

My fiance and I like both:

    	Christine Elizabeth and
Christine Ellise (although I keep misprounouncing it!)

We think that if you name your girl Christina Angela you
should realize that both CHRIST and ANGEL are in this name,
    whatever that means.
315.12Appreciate your inputCSG001::HAMMONDThu Jan 19 1989 19:298
Thanks for the ongoing opinions. We still haven't decided yet on
the middle name. But it will be Christine - not Christina. There's
already a Christina floating around on the outskirts of the family.

I too, like the Elise/Alyse, combination and you're probably right
that we'd end up using her full name some times.

Now, to figure out a boys name.......
315.13christine ELISE!!SHARE::SHEPELUKMon Jan 30 1989 16:2610
I've seen Elise spelt with an A, but I think it looks prettier with
an E. Alise does make me think of Alice for some reason. I vote
for CHRISTINE ELISE HAMMOND. It looks real nice and sounds Great
together! Be careful with a middle name starting with a strong
A, since hearing it quickly, may make people think her name is
CHRISTINA not Christine. You know what I mean?

    Good luck!

    Christina

    re: 13

I agree that it sounds nice together. An earlier note suggested
this name and the use of a vowel (which I really liked).

The only reason that I was thinking about spelling it with an A
was so that her initials would be the same as mine. (which is probably
kind of goofy but it was a thought.....)

And, for all of you dying to know, my middle name is none other
than Ann - which I definitely don't want to use. Ann's okay and
Marie is pretty but 85% of all women I know have one or the other
    for a middle name.

Another question for you all; how do you feel about nicknames for
    Christine (Chris, Chrissy, Christy....)

I'm still debating whether I'll promote the use of a nickname.
(when most kids get to school, you loose some control over this
    anyway.)

    RE; 14

Well, since A is your middle initial, then I think you should go
for Elise spelt with an A. (Alise or Allise). It will have more
meaning and since your having a hard time deciding which to use,
the matching initial could be used as your "decision maker". Actually
is has a softer look spelt with an A. About nicknames... well,
since your not sure whether or not to use one, why don't you just
use Christine to start. Always introduce her that way, and you
and your husband will probally be the 1st to start the nickname
trend. After awhile, one of you will call her something short,
I wouldn't even think about that right now. Just wait and see
what you end up saying in a hurry. You know what I mean? Which
ever one is said the most will be the "nickname". My suggestion
is try to use the full name often enough, so people will know that
is her name. I am an example of a nickname syndrome.. By that
I mean, My name is CHRISTINA, my mother wanted to call me TINA and
not CHRIS or CHRISSY, my Dad wanted CHRISTINA all the time, What
happened? Well, my mother won! I am called Tina so often that
most people don't even realize my real name is Christina! Tina
is cute, but it is a name in itself. With Christine, when people
say, Chris, Chrissie, Christy, usually people know its a nickname
and ask if the real name is CHristina, Christine, Christen, or
something... with Tina, they just feel it's my WHOLE name. So, I
wish my Mom called me Tina and My Dad (at least) through a Christina
in there once in awhile when calling me or something. I was always
jealous of a Christina I knew, she was called CHRISTINA and once
in awhile I heard (the same people) calling her both Chris and Tina
occassionally, once they got her attention, they called her Christina.
Oh well, childhood tribulations huh? So, stick with Christine as
often as possible, it's pretty and only 2 sylabels, just as Chrisy
would be... Nickname like you say will happen, that''s cute and
normal especially for an infant and little child, but, saying the
    real name SOMETIMES is important.

My father was called JR. when he was small... His first day of
kindergarten, his teacher called, WASILY SHEPELUK (russian name)
he didn't answer, well, she called and sat everyone in their assigned
seats, and there was JR. (my Dad) sitting on the opposite side of
the room, the teacher said, "Well, you must be WASILY" my dad said
"no I'm not, I'm JR." !! Poor little thing! He REMEMBERS that
like it was yesterday and he's 55 years old today! - I know Jr.
is very different from Wasily, but my point is, if a nickname happens,
just try to remember to use the Full name ofter enough.

Hey, have you had or heard any good ideas for a boy's name. Just
in Case.... ? Lets see.... hmmm

Bryan Matthew (?) Boy's names are tough.
    Paul Eric
315.16Funny you should mention that.....CSG001::HAMMONDTue Feb 07 1989 16:1713
It's funny you should list the boys names that you did. We've decided
on Matthew if it's a boy. (after a long discussion with my husband
that we wouldn't have a III or 'little Billy')

The reason that I didn't ask about boy's names is that we decided
    that one early on.

While I like the name William - I only like the Bill/Billy variations
and there are already too many of them in our family.

My only hesitation on Matthew is that it's getting real popular
    - but we'll see what happens when the baby's born!

For you purists out there, "Elise" is the standard form. It's
a French pet form of Elizabeth. All other spellings are
variants. One other thing to consider: "Elise" is probably
the one spelling that has the least chance of mispronunciation
-- all the others look a lot like "Alice."
