154.0. "meaning of "ERIN"?" by CSMADM::DALEY () Sat Nov 14 1987 16:19

    I'm sure someone knows meaning of the name "Erin". I named my
    daughter that because it has a nice soft sound, but is it solely
    another name for Ireland or does it have other meanings?

154.1I'm an Erin too!39414::VACCARIWed Nov 18 1987 18:117
    I'm an Erin.... when I was in school there was only ONE other Erin!
    The name is becoming more and more popular. I know there are
    other meanings for the name... I hope your daughter doesn't have
    to deal with people pronouncing it like "Aaron" and spelling it
    that way too! or thinking its Ellen or Karen... happens to me all
    the time!

    When she was a baby and people asked her named, they always
    assumed I was saying Aaron unless she as in a dress. Then when
    she got into school I found out how many ways the name can
    be mispelled - Aron,Eron, Arin, Aren, Eren. And yes, to my surprise
    she has been called Ellen in school. She just graduated from
    high school last spring, and in her yearbook under her picture
    were her nicknames - "Erin, Ellen, Susie" (Sue is her middle
    name). I never thought she was called Ellen.

    The book I have says that Erin is Irish Gaelic for "peace". Literary:
    another name for Ireland.

    Never thought people could butcher names so badly! I didn't think
    Erin was that hard or that strange...

    My daughter was born on May 2, 1987 and we named her Erin after
    reading the meaning of the name. She has definitely lived up to
    the meaning ever since she was born. She is so passive about
    everything it is unbelievable. Erin is such a beautiful name, and
    I don't mind saying, it fits my little girl perfectly.;-)
