    Hi Frank! Fancy meeting you here...
    
    My wife's name is  "Frances ELIZABETH TAYLOR" and she seems to 
    have survived well enough. (Unless I'm only her first of many
    husbands!)
    
    Of course the actress part of her name starts with the *middle*
    name, so it's not quite so evident...

    	Why not just call her Marge?  It is short and simple and quite

    My godmother's name is Margaret but some people call her Marg.
    I've never heard that nickname any where else.

    I know someone who's family calls her Margie - but it's pronounced
    with a hard g sound not like Marjie.  It's hard to describe things
    like this in writing!

    How about 'M'?  Pronounced, of course, 'EM' like in Emily.
    
    My husband has a daughter, Karen, we have started calling her
    'K' (pronounced 'Kay'!)

    
    I have a friend named Margaret and she goes by Mai (My).  You
    could also use Maya (My-a).  Both are pretty.
    
    About famous names...  My name was Elizabeth Taylor until I married
    last year.  People couldn't believe I would give up a name like
    that for Rooney!!!  I do admit I miss it, but I don't miss the
    double-takes when people heard it.

    My mom, Marguerite, was always called Margie.  How about Margo?
    

    If you want to be real different -- use DAISY as a nickname --
    Marguarite is the French name for the flower Daisy
    
    As to nicknames in general - your daughter may change your choice
    when she is older, so if you have a real aversion to any of the
    nicknames for a particular name DON'T -- my brother did that to
    my Mom when he found out she disliked a nickname - he was at that
    rebellious stage
    
    Personnally, my real name is Peggy (not Margaret) which has had
    some interesting effects -- Every teacher, bank clerk, etc. always
    tried to get me to use my REAL name, not a nickname -- my Mom didn't
    like Margaret and was afraid that I would be called some other nickname
    if she named me Margaret, so I was Peggy -- I did learn to stand
    up for myself in not too bad a way by telling people that Peggy
    was my REAL name -- and the legal paper work backed me up, but there
    were some HORRIFIED folks out there -- I mean, really, who would
    NOT give a child a GOOD, SOLID CHRISTIAN NAME.  Peggy, Peg and Meg
    unfortunately will get called Egg, Eggy, etc at some time during
    grade school -- Pegleg also occurred and then there are the songs
    people sing to you -- Peg'O My Heart, Peggy Sue, etc.  I don't think
    it permanently flawed my personality to have this teasing -- but
    there were many days when I longed to have a name like Mary or Ann
    or something less easy to tease about

	At 10:00 AM, Monday, October 26, 1987, Margaret Lloyd Foster
	was born.  (Lloyd is my wife's maiden name).  We still
	don't know if we will call her Maggie or Meg.  Maybe just Mags.

    I have an aunt named Margaret who likes to be called Margo. She
    was called Maggie when younger but never really liked it. My son
    calls her Sarge, which tells you something about her!

    My sister is Margaret.  Known as Marg, Maggie and (get ready to
    duck) Maggie Muffins (I warned you to duck, now look at your face!).
    Her other nicknames had no resemblance to her name, so don't go 
    thinking that by choosing a 'safe' name she'll be safe from name
    teasing.
    
    I've seen Meg and Megs as nicknames but for Meaggen (spelling unknown).

    My wife's first name is Margaret Mary.  Not first and middle names,
    but first name.  She goes by Margaret as a first name and Mary as
    a middle name because it confuses too many people when she tells
    tham she has no middle name.  She does not like any of the common
    nicknames for Margaret, and if you call her Peg or Peggy she'll
    quite forcefully correct you.
    
    An interesting side note: Her mother is second generation Irish
    from Brooklyn and pronounces Margaret as MAHR-grit.  It sounds better
    than it looks.
