69.0. "Caileigh" by GIGI::TRACY () Tue Jan 06 1987 12:24

On December 9, 1986, we had a baby girl and we named her
    Caileigh Ryan Warren.

I'm the one who was surprised that more parents didn't know
the meanings of their kids' names, but I can't tell you
definitively what Caileigh means. It's sort of a cross between
two Gaelic names: Cailin (girl) and Keely (beautiful). So I
guess it means beautiful girl (which she is!). I've also seen
it as Caley for a boy, meaning slender.

By the way, Caileigh was in distress when she was born and has
had a very difficult first month. For two weeks, we didn't know
if she would make it and, if she did, whether there would be
permanent damage. Miraculously, she has pulled through, appears
to have suffered no permanent effects, and is a very happy,
alert baby. However, she is still in the hospital and has a long
recovery ahead of her. Your prayers would be appreciated. Thank
    you.

I'm also glad to hear Caileigh is doing better. Our son Dylan
also had some early difficulty with a heart murmur (VSD). But,
his little hole healed up fine and he has been perfectly healthy
ever since. I hope Caileigh experiences a similar full recovery.

Any meaning to the name Ryan? Or is it just a family name?

Thank you for your concern Jeff. She's looking better every day.

We wanted to name Caileigh after my mother, but she said she'd kill
me if I named a baby Constance. Ryan is her maiden name. It also
means "little monarch." I have a feeling that's going to be very
appropriate, i.e., that Caileigh will be ruling things in our house
    for a long time!

Tracy (and Caileigh!) CONGRATULATIONS on your recent arrival!

(no I am not late - you were early ;-)).

Any more news on Caileigh's progress, 9 months old, and she should
REALLY be ruling the house now.

It sounds as if your derivation is appropriate.

    Take care.

69.5Let me tell you about my baby...GIGI::TRACYTue Sep 22 1987 16:4013
Yes, Caileigh is now nine and a half months and doing super. After
two months in the hospital, a battle with eating problems (we had
to feed her with a tube down her nose to her stomach for a while
after she came home), a stint when the doctors insisted she would
have cerebral palsy (because of the eating difficulties), she has
been given a clean bill of health. We have child-proofed the house
as she is starting to walk unassisted. She is also starting to
get close to talking (BA-BA when she sees a baby or a picture of
one). And she is the happiest child I've ever seen. Also the most
beautiful (boasts the proud mother). She is truly a miracle baby!

Just happened to be reading through the file and came across
your story--I'M SO THRILLED that Caileigh has been give a

My niece has a very similar name -- Kailee Melissa Ryan. I prefer
your spelling of Caileigh, but I think my sister was concerned about
ease of spelling and pronunciation when she picked out the name.
When I was younger I used to wish my name was more "normal", but
now I'm glad I have an unusual name.

Glad to hear that Caileigh is a healthy little girl!

I can't believe there's another Caileigh/Kailee Ryan! And we thought
    we were being so original...

    Kailee is 4 1/2. She'll be 5 on June 29th. She's blonde with blue
eyes -- very Irish looking like her daddy!

It's funny to come across this note. I love the name Caileigh/Kailee,
I heard it in a song one time, and ever since then, have absolutely
loved the name. I thought it was spelled kaileigh! But I guess
either way it's still beautiful. My family background in more
Italian and I am not sure how it would sit with my in-laws if
we decided to name a child we may have Kailee and not Angela!
    ha ha!

Well, congrats to Caileigh, she sounds like a special child.

She IS very special!! I would love to get my hand on a song about
a Caileigh--if you remember the name of it or who did it, please
    let me know.

    Thx,

The group that wrote and sang the song are Marrilion and they spelt
the name Kayleigh which I believe is from Scottish origin.

All the best to you and your family

    Hi everyone!
I am new to this system so I thought I'd join in. The name
Ceileigh is a beautiful name that I have always liked very
much. Here is a twist for all of you!!!!!!!
I hope this isnt offensive to anyone but how about that
    name for a puppy??

I had a wonderful dog when I was growing up with the same name.
But what is interesting about it was the spelling of her name.
My parents spelled it like this: CEILIDH (pronounced Ceileigh)

It is of Scotish decent and I believe they got the spelling from
some book they over crossed. The book might have had something
to do with Shetlan Sheep dogs (Sheltie's) which Ceilidh was. She
was my first dog and she was a sweetheart!! We now have here puppies
which are now 11 years old. There names are Brigadoon and Peaches.

    Strange I know!!!!

Once again I love the name Ceilidh, Ceileigh, or however you'd
    like to spell it.!!

Bit late to give a reply to this I suppose, but the name did intrigue me.

Ceilidh is of scottish origin and is gaelic (old scottish) for a music and
dance party. It is still used where I come from in the frozen north,
though the proper spelling is caelidh pronounced kaylee.

    re 69.0...

    	Tracy,

I read your note a couple of months ago and since then I
haven't been able to get the name Caileigh out of my mind.
Both my husband and I think it is a beautiful name and are
planning to use it if we have a girl. (I am due this Sunday,
    	May 20th!)

I do have a question though... how do you pronounce it?
Is it "Ca leigh" with the accent on the first syllable
or with the accent on the second syllable? Or... is it
"K leigh"? (Or am I totally off base?)

I'd really appreciate it if someone could tell me how
to pronouce this name correctly. Many thanks in advance.

My friend had a daughter last November and named her Caeli -
same pronounciation (kay-lee) but different spelling, obviously.
    I think it's a pretty name.
