915.0. "Iomega Corp???" by WMGEN1::16.135.176.77::SteveS (Hakuna Matata?) Fri Sep 15 1995 01:12

I recently picked up an Iomega ZIP drive unit (for parallel port attachemnet
to DOS/Windoze systems) and am impressed. I was also impressed with the local
CompUSA selling out of 18 of these in 3 hrs yesterday ("we can't keep them
in stock!"), the WIZ saying the same thing, etc. The MAC/scsi version
apparently has some problems, but I think this little device might just take
off over the next year or two.

So, who knows anything (including symbol/exchange info!) about Iomega???

915.1Whew! 10 bagger in 1 year.STOWOA::BERSONFri Sep 15 1995 01:3910
    Iomega is public and trades on the NASDAQ National Market. The Ticker
    Symbol is IOMG.

    Is this a deal? Iomega was selling at 2 and 19/64 as a low in the last
    52 weeks, but as of last Friday it closed at 26 and 3/8. That's some
    run up over 10 years, never mind one. Also, for their previous two
    quarters, they are still losing money. I'd buy the ZIP drive, but
    leave the stock to someone else to speculate on.

    Well, I guess I blew it on this prediction. Shortly after I wrote this
    note Iomega went down below 20. The advise looked good at that time.
    Tonight I turned on the Nightly Business Report and Iomega was up six
    points to 40 and a fraction.

Yeah, Bob, thanks to your enthusiastic endorsement I stayed away from this
one...

Of course, only kidding, I shoulda followed my Peter Lynch strategy.

FWIW, I heard that the ZIP drives were going to be offerd with (I think
Micron's) PCs, hence big growth in store. Profits prolly come from the disks
(like razor blades).

	NBR also confirms the 2for1 stock split announcement. It's not
	like $40/share was high that it needed a split because it was
	too pricy (like BRK :-), I find it amazing that the stock is
	up ~ 25% in a single trading day on such an annoucement (after
	all, a split like this doesn't increase the value of your
	investment .... it's not like a stock "dividend")....

    Heard they are unable to keep up with the demand for the Jazz drives..
    Not to mention the zip drives..

915.13Short coverings drive the stock up2155::michaudJeff Michaud - ObjectBrokerTue May 21 1996 16:3911
> scary at this point

	NBR reported last night that this stock has a good sized short
	position.

	If true, when that happens, the short-sellers go into a buying
	frenzy to cover their positions when the stock starts going up.
	This starts a vicious cycle, and usually ends in what is called
	a "blow out".

	Whether this will be a classic example or not only time will tell ...

    IOMEGA stock reminds me of a stock a year or so ago called
    ANDREA ELECTRONICS that shot up BIGTIME. Only difference is that
    IOMEGA has revenues, A.E. did not, the hype with them was they had some
    kind of telephone filtering device that everybody thought would be
    adopted by AT&T....in never materialed.

915.15In new laptops, so steady customer base for a whileDABEAN::NEARYBob Neary Lexington,MassWed May 22 1996 12:169
    IBM and Compaq(<- I think) are using IOMEGA drives in their new
    notebooks. They will soon come out with their new,bigger drives.
    This stock has been on the buys lists of lots of Investment advisors
    for a year or so. A friend of mine bought it on the recommendation
    of the Cabot Market Letter at $8. He sold last week at $48. Since then
    it went to $84 and then split and it's back it the $40's again. He's
    aggravated he sold "too soon" , but he still made $40,000 so he's not
    complaining.
