826.0. "Recommendations????" by KITYKT::HARPIN () Thu Feb 02 1995 10:47

	Does anyone have any recommendations on a stock broker or firm
      	to work with on investments. I am looking to make some
	short-term investments 2-3 years either in mutual funds,
	businesses or stock market etc... I am not extremely
	knowledgeable in this area so I prefer to have a recommendation
	from someone that knows of someone reputable vs. responding
	to the mailings or phone calls that I receive.

	Thank you,

RE: .0

You'll be better off subscribing to Money or Smart Money and picking one of
the funds they recommend than using a broker. A broker is primarily a
salesman whose main interest is a commission which will come off the top of
your investment. Obviously this will reduce your return. There's no good
reason I know of to buy a high load fund which is most likely what a broker
will try to sell you.

You can also visit a public library and look in Morningstar's publication
for fund recommendations.
