695.0. "Valence Technology" by MARVA2::BUCHMAN (UNIX refugee in a VMS world) Wed Mar 09 1994 15:45

    A friend of mine told me about a company which has been researching new
    battery technology for a while, and who want to become commercial. The
    company is Valence Technology (Nasdaq ValTch), and they make batteries.
    The batteries are made using a material which is non-toxic and can be
    molded into nearly any shape. It can also be recharged up to 300 times
    with little degradation. It has traded in the 11 - 23 range for the
    past year, and is now at 16.5. Does anyone know more about it?

    My friend doesn't know what the downside of these batteries are. They
    sound great. Maybe they are extremely expensive???

695.1Try the Cabot Market LetterDABEAN::NEARYWed Mar 09 1994 19:415
    If you live in Mass , check out the Cabot Market Letter. They used to
    have it at the Andover Library. That letter had it in his model
    portfolio for a few years. If you look at back issues, in one month it
    was his stock of the month with a full page write-up.

    I encourage you to call VLNC's investor relations dept and ask for a
    new investor kit. I got the 10-k, annual report etc. There is lots of
    potential and lots of risk. The 10-k describes competition (lots), the
    likelyhood of future losses (lots), and the lack of manufacturing
    capabilities.  Beware and be informed.
695.3Barrons 3/14/94CSOA1::ECKTue Mar 15 1994 11:145
    This weeks issue of Barron's (3/14) contains a feature story on the
    next generation of batteries. Valance Technologies is reviewed, along
    with Everyready, Duracell and many others. The varieties of battery
    technology are explained, along with the needs of the emerging portable
    market. Net on Valance.......potential....lots of risk.
695.4Care for a dip?MARVA2::BUCHMANUNIX refugee in a VMS worldFri May 06 1994 21:384
    Lots of risk indeed! This one took a big drop to under 6! Has recently
    rebounded to 7.5. It dropped four points in one day early this week.
    Does anyone know why?
