485.0. "Retirement Planning Software" by SSGV01::BALCOM () Fri May 28 1993 17:37

    I am looking for retirement planning software for my PC. Has anyone
    had good/bad experience with any packages? I've looked at the T. Rowe
    Price Retirement Planning Kit. THis kit isn't bad but would like
    opinions on other packages.  Thanks.

485.3Vanguard Retirement PlannerNEMAIL::GREENBERGThu Dec 30 1993 14:1727
    Money magazine in a recent issue (December 1993?) rated four retirement
    packages:

    	Calypso Retire ASAP
    	Vanguard Retirement Planner
    	Fidelity ???
    	A fourth which I don't remember

    They rated the Vanguard Retirement Planner #1 in terms of ease of use
    and Calypso a very close #2. The others were not nearly as good acccording
    to the article.

    Vanguard's package sells for $17. Calypso's is $102. The substantial
    difference between them, as I understand it, is that Calypso will develop
    an asset allocation strategy for you.

    I bought the Vanguard Package, installed it and used it and found it to
    be an excellent way to start planning retirement. It is a breeze to use
    and the graphics are clear and intuitive. I spoke to a service rep at
    Vanguard and he told me that they will be coming out with a new
    version/upgrade that will provide an allocation strategy some time in
    the next 60-90 days.

    By the way, the software is not linked at all to their products,
    although I'm sure I'll wind up on their mailing/phone lists.

    Vanguard number is: 800-876-1840
485.4do these packages bring anything new to the table?NOTAPC::LEVYThu Dec 30 1993 16:437
    Has anyone compared the Vanguard/Fidelity/T. Rowe Price packages to the
    Retirement Planning function in Managing Your Money?

    For computer or financial software novices, I could see the value of an
    extremely easy-to-use, single-function application. But I wonder if
    these packages offer any features not found in MYM's Retirement
    Planning module, or the equivalent in Quicken (assuming it has one).
485.5Rich and Retired???PCBUOA::RIPLEYWed Aug 02 1995 19:5515

    	Money magazine in July issue (I believe) once again
    	rated retirment planning software. One they said was
    	the best was called: Rich and Retired from DataTech
    	in Harrisburg Pa. (717) 652-4344. they offer a free
    	demo disk which I got. After asking some questions
    	I found it would do what I was looking for so thought
    	I would contact some of the stores they told me carried
    	it.	I tried CompUSA and they no longer carry it.
    	Tried Egghead, same thing??? Weird... It isn't a
    	really polished product but does handle a lot of situations.
    	Price is $59.95. However, I am wondering why no one is
    	carryig it that used to? Anyone familiar with this product?
