290.0. "Analysis Packages...." by SPECXN::KANNAN () Wed Oct 07 1992 21:16

I am interested in learning more about technical analysis packages
on PC's (Msdos). Does anybody have any experience with these?

Does anybody use these with Mutual funds?

If yes, how does one go about getting information downloaded from
   quote services?

   Any information is appreciated.

   Thanks

I am not certain what you mean by "technical analysis packages" but I assume you
mean something like "Managing Your Money" by Andrew Tobias (Meca SW)which has an
investments analysis module. I have recently started using this software (after
having had a wonderful experience with their tax software), and I find it
excellent for tracking expenses and analyzing investments. You can download
stock quotes through Prodigy (after receiving a free ultility from Meca) and it
automatically updates your stock and mutual fund portfolio to reflect current
prices.

If you are looking for something more technical (i.e., statistical analysis)
on the order of SPSS (or smilar) I can't help much...

Good luck

Norm

Hi Norm,

I was looking for information on Trend Analysis packages and such. SPSS
can do all of this stuff, but I believe that there are pacakges that can
download quotes from services such as Dow <something> services and can
calculate and display trend lines etc.. I guess these kinds of software
are more useful for daily or weekly market-timers rather than casual investors.

Thanks

No personal experience myself, but I do know that the American
Association of Individual Investors (AAII) publishes a directory of
    technical analysis applications.

    Check it out.

I don't use any either, but I've seen several rave reviews of a
Technical Analysis product called MasterChartist. It's very expensive,
but I think it may have a cheaper sibling (with lesser complexity).
They're usually advertised in Investor's Daily, Barron's, etc. I have
no idea how good they really are other than reviews I've seen by some
    technical analysts.

How does one get a hold of MECA Software?

290.7French SoftwaresEVOAI2::$TRICHETFri Feb 26 1993 05:4022

I known a french software which name is WALGRAPH provided by
    WALDATA company near Paris.
This software proposes about 20 models of technical analysis.
Sold for about 6000 French Francs. Please note they are 2 other
versions with less models, rather for beginners.
You can get a demo PC floppy for about 200 FF.

Another well known in France and Europe is WIKING from Delphi
Economics. Maybe a few more models but a little more expensive.
I know about it less than WALGRAPH. But I am able to get more
    informations.

But please note the french way to down load prices is via the french
well known MINITEL. Idon't known yet if there are other ways.

The way communicating you details may be scanning some pages of
advertising documentations and let them on easynet.

When wanted tell me or mail me. I'll ask the providers.
