26.0. "Credit Cards with No Annual Fee" by LEDS::WILDING (Arthur, SHR 237-6353, Drive f/w eng.) Wed Jan 29 1992 00:31

  It's time for an update to the list of credit cards that do not charge an
  annual fee. The edited list from INVESTING.NOTE, which I understand is
  eventually going away, includes:

  49ER::AMLANI      -< AT & T Universal card phone # >-      18-SEP-1990 17:12
    AT&T Universal Card, Customer Service Number 1-800-423-4343.

    Best no-fee cards from Money magazine:
      AFBA Industrial (VA.)  13%  800-776-2322
      Amalgamated Trust (Ill.) 14% 800-365-6464 (mastercard only)
      The Abbott Bank (Neb.) 16.3% 800-288-6844

  SYSTMX::HANAUER            -< Check Fidelity >-            26-DEC-1991 15:36
    Recently got something in the mail from Fidelity on a MC or VISA
    (cant remember which) with no annual fee and other perks such as
    5% discount on air travel if you use their travel agency.
    May be only for Fidelity customers, don't know.

  MAY21::PSMITH                  -< USAA >-                  27-DEC-1991 18:59
    USAA Federal Savings Bank has no-fee MC and VISA. If you or your parents
    were in the military, you're eligible for the insurance (no advantage in
    MA, but in other states they have good rates), and the various other
    "services." The credit cards are reasonable, the mortgages tend to run
    a little high.

26.1What about in Arkansas?MR4DEC::FLEESEThu Jan 30 1992 13:387

    What about in Arkansas? I have heard there is lowest percentage rate on
    VISA or MAster Charge. But I dont remember the name of bank and toll
    free line number. Anyone know about it?

    I just received a brochure from AAA this week. They offer a fee-free
    MasterCard as long as you remain a member of AAA.

    re: 26.2

    I also recieved an application from the American Automobile Association
    for a no-fee Mastercard. It says on the brochure that came with it
    that there will be no Annual Fee "as long as you remain a member of AAA
    South Central New England". So it is possible that not all AAA
    branches are offering this deal. In any event, if you pay off your
    balances in full each month - it is a good deal.

RE: several

      My wife and I have had AAA Visa cards for several years now. In
      that time the bank we've dealt with has changed twice. I interpret
      this as good: AAA is actively shopping for the best deal. Yes,
      this is AAA South Central New England. And I think that you must
      agree to have your AAA dues charged automatically on you AAA
      charge card.

      There used to be a small ($15/year?) charge, but I think the
      latest deal -- through "Membership Banking" -- does away with the
      fee altogether.

      I have no complaints.
