331.0. "RoamAbout in Ultra 475 w/ 1.3gig hard drive" by STOWOA::READ (Bob Read @OGO, DTN 276-9715) Tue Feb 11 1997 13:32

    Good Morning Folks:

    I'm trying to get a RoamAbout DEINA-AA card working my Hinote Ultra
    CT475 running Windows 95b (OSR2).  I've tried a number of different
    cards, rev A, rev B. I've added and removed and added the drivers. (I
    got the drivers from the internal web site.)

    The best that I can do is when I have both my Xircom and my RoamAbout
    cards plugged in at the same time, I can do a release/renew from
    WINIPCFG to get IP addresses for each of the cards. (I presume that
    the renew request goes out on the RoamAbout to get a DHCP address for
    the RoamAbout.) However, if I don't have the Xircom ethernet card
    plugged in, the renew request on the RoamAbout adapter times out. I
    can't do a network logon. And the card generally seems dead. (The
    power light cycles on and off while the system is trying to do a
    network logon; the receive light is flashing. The power light is steady
    when nothing is happening.)

    (When I do a "renew", the transmit light flashes briefly, the power
    light cycles off twice, and I get an IP address. When I do a release,
    the transmit light flashes briefly and the address is released. All the
    time, the receive light is flashing.)

    (The base station is about 3 meters from my PC, so reception is fine.
    And there are other folks using the base station, so it would seem to
    be working properly.)

    One other thing: I have upgraded the disk drive to a 1.3gig drive
    formatted FAT32. I have heard rumours that there are some interaction
    problems between the 1.3gig drive and the PC Card Controller.

    Any advice? I'd really like to get this working!

    thanks,
    b.

331.1OSR2 driver for RoamAbout DS on internal WWW.IROCZ::SCHWARTZTue Feb 11 1997 16:3917
    Bob,

    Yes, the released driver does not work with OSR2.

    You can find an OSR2 driver on our internal WWW site. Just install the
    V3.50 kit and then copy the WVLAN22.SYS file to the \windows\system
    directory replacing the V3.50 version. I plan to formally release this
    version in the next two weeks, after a little more testing. This
    version that you are copying is V1.13 of the driver.

Regards,
Jeff
