306.10Project go onATYISA::POITEVINTue Feb 11 1997 06:4012

    This projet go on, yesterday I have installed 10 FH PCs cards and 2
    APs to be tested next thurday.
    About this projet I have some questions :
    	- Is there a FH product in Europe (ETSI) that use all the bandwidth
    	  (To have more hopping channels)
    	- What is the best way in FH to use many PCs in a small area
    	  (Many APs ok but how and the configuation of each AP and PC...)

    Thanks,

    Thierry.
306.11FH frequency band.IROCZ::SCHWARTZTue Feb 11 1997 16:1923
    Hi Thierry,

    Depending upon the country, there are different frequencies.
    Europe/ETSI FH uses a 43MHz wide band and France uses a 23MHz wide band
    as that is all that the country will allow.

    As far as setting things up, you should in general put no more that 3
    or 4 APs in a given area, as it will start to show a drop in user
    throughput with too many APs in a small area.

    You can either set them all up using one Domain and all different
    Channels or you can set them up on different Domains and different
    Channels. They both have there advantages and disadvantages. If you
    set them all on the same Domain, you will not have to worry about
    setting up your clients differently, you will not have to worry what
    happens if one AP goes away (ie someone unplugs it, as it will
    certainly not fail). However the disadvantes is that the APs will not
    do load balancing, so there is a chance that half could go to one AP,
    and one forth to the second two APs. I personally think that I would
    set them up on one Domain and see how it works.

    Regards,
    Jeff
306.124 to 22 patternsATYISA::POITEVINWed Feb 12 1997 15:4511

    	Jeff,

    	If I use the US variant of FH (79 hops) can you have more than 3 or
    	4 APs.
    	In the 802.11 (an old release Dec 1995 page 273) I have read that
    	in France (and Japan) you can have 4 patterns and for US 22 patterns.

    	Regards,

    	Thierry.
