1005.0. "syswd sensor looping on Alpha/UNIX" by BIS6::VANDENBRAN_P () Thu Feb 20 1997 13:05

    Hello,

    Is there a solution to the syswd sensor looping on Alpha/Unix
    ( see note 835 ).

    We have the same problem here on several new AS4100 when starting
    the agent.

    We effectively tried to regenerate the corrupt errorlog file but this
    will not solve the problem.
    We still get the message error reading syserr file when using the uerf
    command.
    On the other hand I was told by MCS support that uerf is not supported
    on the latest Alpha systems ( 4100 ) and that one should use DECevent.

    DECevent is able to read the syserr file.

    My question(s):

    _ Is the syswd sensor reading the syserr file like uerf does.
    _ Is there a solution already to this like mentionned in note 835.1

    Same question posted in the Digital UNIX conference note 8850.

    Thanks,

    Philippe VANDENBRANDEN / OMS Brussels.

    Yes.

    There's a partial solution to this problem, implemented separately from
    the V2.3 FT and available from:

    heldog::~guest/psw23/Fixes/PSWUNIX_FT_007/psw_sensor_syswd.ALPHA

    It is partial as, although it now deals correctly with empty error
    logfiles (which is the problem you experienced when regenerating the
    logfile), an automatic recovery still isn't possible on corrupt ones
    (well, uerf itself doesn't ever recover from such binary error logfile
    corruptions...).

    Regards,
