992.0. "Summer Flick Time" by SFCPMO::FOX () Mon Jun 17 1991 19:46

Well, it's summertime and you know what that means...big budget
movie time! I know Robin Hood is out but any reaction from this
    or Terminator-II, Rocketeer...etc.

For Trivia nuts - I saw Adams Family, the movie and Aliens have
not been on the current summer release lists like earlier...what
happened to them (Adams Family should be good)?

ALIEN III is being directed by David Fincher, who up to this point
    has only directed music videos.

James Cameron was the first person they asked, and he turned them
down. They then asked Ridley Scott. He agreed, and was signed to
do the film. The production company kept dragging its heels, and
Scott ended up leaving in order to film BLACK RAIN (that'll tell
you how long this thing's been in the works).

re Alien III: a while ago I saw in the paper that William Gibson was writing the
script, and there are some notes to that effect here. Any updates? (Black Rain
has already finished its cable run!). Hmmm...music videos...does that mean the
camera-man won't be able to hold the camera still?

As far as T2: Judgement Day: It's great! Arno is great! Linda Hamilton is
psychotic! It's even a family movie: no human fatalities (minor spoiler, but
then you're in on the joke). Whiz bang special effects! Great imponderables
about Skynet! Time travel gets even more confusing! Terminator-viewpoint
software upgraded from 8080 assembler to windows and pull-down menus!
Sadly, now that I have an 11-month old son and have to pay a babysitter, I've
only seen it once so far. Highly recommended.

William Gibson wrote an ALIEN III script back in 1987. He then
did one rewrite on it. The film has since changed writers as often
as it's changed directors. Gibson's script has long since been
discarded. Just as well, too. It had a handful of nice ideas, but
it had a lot of problems as well.

Special effects for the film are being done right now. I've heard,
however, that they're taking more time than expected, and the release
date for the film has been pushed back to February 1992.

TERMINATOR 2 a family film? Perhaps for the Addams Family, but
I think there were just a wee few too many people shot (so they
weren't killed, they were still maimed), buildings blown up, and
vehicles smashed, plus the theme was about a machine trying to kill
    a young boy.

I also have problems with a film that said it was anti-violence
by using excessive amounts of it in the process.

I loved T2, but I would not call it a family film. The language, the
violence (a shot in the knee is still a shot)...

re: No human fatalities in T2

    Who is kidding who!

Plenty were killed. Arnie may even have killed one or two, before he
meet the kid. The guys in the bar looked pretty roughed up.

The T1000 had no such compunctions at any time and probably killed at
least a half a dozen folks, maybe more.

Jeez, has it been a month since I've seen this thing. It was good, I
liked it, but it surely should have been 'R'. (I don't even remember
    what rating it was!)

Even normal humans killed a few people ....

I humbly stand corrected. In future I will only let my kids watch "Teenage

by pretty roughed up, I meant that I thought he was dead.

The T1000 also killed at least the initial cop and the prison guard,
I'm not sure the helicopter pilot could have survived either.

Body Coyunt for T2:

Cop #1 at the begining of the movie
Cop #2 Motorcycle
Cop #3 The Helecopter Pilot might have been killed. It was quit a drop.
Man at the Mall that got between John,Arnie and the T1000. He took about 5 9mm
rounds.
Both of Johns Foster Parents
The security guard at the State Hospital
The truck driver near the end. He was driving the Liquid nitrogen truck. The
T1000 knifed him.

Go watch T2 again.

then go watch a Classic Sam Peckinpaw Western (Like the Wild Bunch I believe,
good vintage movie from the 50s?? 60s??)

Then come back here and tell us which is more violent and bloody.

grins,

clark -

A hint for those with out a VCR - it ain't gonna be T2.

The fact that "The Wild Bunch" may be more bloody than T2 hardly
    makes T2 a family picture --
